REVIEW

Hotel U Cerneho Konicka

UK

I can easily recommend this hotel during a visit to Prague ... depending upon one\'s expectations and needs concerning a hotel stay.

The location in the New Town is very convenient. Lots of nearby reasonably priced pubs and restaurants. Easy walking distance to major tourist sites. Trams and metro conveniently located, as well.

This is a small hotel (about 20 rooms) in an old building that has been recently renovated. No elevator. The room was quite spacious and clean. The bedding was adequately comfortable. Room furniture was Ikea-like, with more than adequate drawer/closet storage space. Nothing fancy here at all. Think Motel 6 in the US. Private bathroom with small shower. Plenty of very hot water at all times. Thin towels, not soft.

My room faced the street so there was street noise (trams, trucks, occasional yelling) but nothing that was so bothersome. Obviously, if this might be a problem, I\'d request a different room in advance. Reception staff was quite friendly and helpful when called upon.

Breakfast was included and adequate. A prior reviewer termed it as \"rubbish\", but I think that unfair. A few breads and an available toaster. Overcooked fried eggs. Sliced cold cuts and cheese. Sliced tomatoes and cucumber. Cold cereal. Good coffee and choice of tea. No juice but cold water and an awful orange drink. This is not an elaborate/fancy breakfast buffet, but was good enough to help get a good start on the day.

This is not a Hilton, but I did not want or expect a Hilton when making this reservation. If you don\'t want or require luxury and are looking for a place that is reasonably comfortable and well located, this hotel is a good choice for a visit to a lovely city.

We stayed here for a weekend, great location in heart of old town, an easy walk to main sights- the bridge, town square etc. Old building with spacious rooms, I agree the breakfast was a bit rubbish though, but its cheap enough to eat out and plenty places nearby to choose from! Rooms were a bit noisy (especially when you have an italian couple next door arguing at 6am!) but staff were friendly, hot water 24/7 and beds were sooo comfy. Would stay here again!

Manchester, United Kingdom

Do not stay here if you are expecting high quality service, accomodation and service. The rooms are not extravagant, the food is not great and the service is far from great.

However, DO stay here if you want an affordable base of operations. Somewhere you can use to sleep and get change before a day sightseeing or a night out.

I stayed here from 10th to the 14th April and found the place ideal. All I wanted was a cheap, liveable room whcih is what I got. Before I went I was slightly worried as there was going to be three lads sharing the room, but when we got there we found it very spacious, basic I admit, but that didn't bother any of us.

As for the location, what more could I ask for. We saw just about every sight in Prague during the week, from king Charles' Bridge, watching a Sparta Prague match to visiting the telecommunications tower, and we only used public transport once, and that was just only for the experience.

It was also close to the nightlife, there is nothing worse than having a long walk home after a top night out, but the longest we had was about 10-15 minutes. (Was actually probably a bit longer as my mates couldn't walk in a straight line despite their protestations that the beer hadn't affected them!).

the main downside of the hotel was the food, it was the normal continental feast you would expect. WhileI understand I am in a foreign country and I can't expect them to pander to British needs, would it be so hard to get cold milk to go with the cereal?

Even with not taking advantage of the free breakfast after the first day, I still think the hotel offered good value for money and I intend to use it again when I next to return to the city.
