Southern Illinois The Grand Hotel Zvon is a very classy hotel located on the square in Ceske Budejovice. The square is perhaps one of the main shopping areas of the city and contains lots of nice shops and a couple of restaurants. The hotel room was very nice, including a tub in the bathroom. Beds and pillows were comfortable as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was included in the rate we paid, and it was good. We chose the hotel because some of the reviews indicated its close proximity to the train station. I guess it depends on how one defines “close.” It was between ½ to ¾ of a mile, so one might give some consideration to that. There appeared to be one or two taxis at the train station that could be useful. Associated with the hotel are one or two restaurants, including one that features another local beer, not Budvar which Ceske Budejovice is famous for. Naturally, we tried both of them. If one is a beer lover, one will not be disappointed by either of the beers featured.

Management Response I am always very sad when I look at the Tripadvisor reviews of our hotel and find out that all the stated opinions come from a period before a complete renovation of our hotel.
Dear Traveller, please note that our hotel has been through a complete renovation and there are no \"very hot experiences\" and \"Not-quite four-star\" feelings any more.
All services we provide are certified according to ISO:9001:2000 Quality Management System by reputable Bureau Veritas and the hotel itself is the winner of a prestigious national competition \"Best of Reaty\" - as the best hotel project of the year!
So - let me invite you to the new transfigurated Grand Hotel Zvon, in the very heart of South Bohemia.

Los Angeles, California The lobby and other public areas are just slightly above average. The room itself was a little dated, but since this hotel claims to have been in operation since 1533 (473 years)... I\'ll try to be gentle. We arrived without a reservation about 7:00pm on a Tuesday evening in August and were offered a 20% discount off the normal room rate for one night. The carpet in our room was acceptable, but was beginning to show minor signs of wear..... definitely time to replace it. The furniture was rather generic looking, but functional. It was a little hot in the room when we first entered and I noticed right away that there was no air conditioning, but after opening the windows, the room cooled down to a comfortable level. The bathroom was nothing special.... there was a single wash basin without much room for toiletries, a hair dryer hung unceremoniously by its electrical cord on a coat hook, and there were no amenities such as shampoo or bar soap. There were liquid soap dispensers in the bathtub and by the wash basin, and this is all that was provided. Our room overlooked the main town square which was quite pleasant especially around 9:00pm when a small orchestra played classical music outside our window for about half an hour.... a fantastic European touch! The beds were comfortable and we both slept well. No noise complaints or anything like that, although housekeeping opened the door to our room about 10:00am to see if we had departed. When we did depart around 11:45am, two maids were sort of camped outside our door waiting for us to leave. This hotel is ok, but I would rate it as maybe a 3+ star.... it is certainly not a four-star hotel as they claim.

New Castle,Pa An absolutely delightful experience. Easy access to the indoor parking garage with very helpful attendants. Quick and easy check in. Beautiful room -Grand Suite- with huge windows opening onto the square. Every employee from the maid service to the front desk were very friendly and helpful, always ready to go out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The cuisine in the different diniing venues were delicious and varied with good pricing and once again wonderful service. In short this stop in our month long vacation was one of the best and we will definately be returning to this city and this particular hotel again.
