Hotel Antik

UK

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Antik Hotel, Prague. We chose it because of the excellent reviews that we read on this web site and we were not disappointed. I would have to endorse everything that was said about it by other travellers. Friendly, ideally situated in the old town, spotlessly clean, perfectly adequate breakfasts and good sized rooms. Only downside which was mentioned by others was the difficulty with the hot water. We returned to the rooms about 6ish and desperately needed to thaw out, (how cold can it get?) only to find that only 1 of us could have a half full bath. Mornings were fine though so I guess it was to do with another larger group of women who needed to get ready or heated through at the same time as us. Had a lovely meal at Klub Architectu, were recommended it by friends who had been there and told to book which we did. Also even though it was freezing a visit to the rooftop of the Hotel straight opposite the astrological clock (the U Prince I think!) for a cocktail next to a patio heater was a fantastic experience. Will definitely be going back and wouldn\'t hesitate to stay there again

London

We have just come home from a wonderful 3 nights in prague. This was our first time in the city and wanted a hotel that was near to all the old and intresting areas. The Hotel Antik was 100% spot on for location. Everything you could wish for was right on the door step. The hotel its self was charming. Our room on the first floor was large and with it facing the small court yard garden very quite. It had a lovely balcony but with the temp at -10 we never used it. The room inside however was always lovely and warm with lots of hot water for the important bath at the end of a cold days walking. It really was a joy to return to. Prague is a beautiful city and so steeped in history it has to seen, having been to many European cities it is by far the most romantic. The positive aspects of the city are in its walk ability, culture and for classical music lovers it’s a dream. There are however some negatives, for example, you may find it is not as cheap as you are lead to believe we found the glass wear (bohemian crystal) which Prague is famous for was at times more expensive than in the uk you really need to shop around stay away from the shops around the old town square and Wenceslas area as they really rip you off. For example, I bought a vase in the Jewish quarter for £ 17 the same vase in Wenceslas was £32. The same goes for eating out some can charge as much as 3 times what you would pay up the side streets. Nevertheless it is a great place but take lots of warm clothes if you are going in the winter time as it really is very cold As a Scot I thought I new what cold was like but this gives a whole new meaning to freezing. Have fun and enjoy

Dublin, Ireland

We stayed in the Hotel Antik in December 2005. The hotel is ideally located <5 mins walk from the old town square. It\'s a lovely small, cosy hotel, we had a loft room - which was huge, the heating was excellant and we were always toasty warm in the room. Following on from comments on this site we brought our own hair dryer and we were up for breakfast every day by 9am - breakfast was excellant, lots of fresh bread, pastries, cheese etc.. the usual. We had stayed in the Hotel Mejstrik on a previous visit to Prague - and it was booked up for this visit, but I would definitely choose the hotel Antik to stay in for my next visit to Prague.

*There was a slight hitch with the checkout - something was wrong with the credit card machine however this could have happened anywhere and would not change our opinion of the hotel.

If you are in anyway disabled then the winding stone staircase would be a disadvantage but we loved it - and it adds to the charm of the place. We found absolutely no faults with it.

Ann Arbor, Michigan

My father and I just returned from a trip in Eastern Europe. While in Prague we stayed at the Hotel Antik. We originally had hoped to stay in the 7 Angels Hotel (which is deeper in the Mala Strana, or old city). We are SO glad that 7 Angels was full and the booking agent suggested Hotel Antik. Hotel Antik is a sweet hotel located two blocks from the main square (which the Astronomer\'s clock, etc..). It is still deep enough in the mix of the old city that ALL of the sites are VERY close by (3 blocks from the old Jewish section, 3 blocks from the Municipal House, 2 blocks from the main square and the depths of the Mala Strana, maybe 6 winding blocks to the Charles Bridge). WARNING - there was no elevator, so you might have to lug your suitcase up as many of four stories of worn stone spiral stairs (which every other time they were climbed were very cool). Overall, I would say this hotel is great and I highly recommend it.

One slight (very slight) negative was that because this hotel is in such a great central location, we did have the night-time noise of revellers each night past midnight and my dad resorted to earplugs (it was very warm - so we needed to sleep with the windows open). It is for this reason that we feel that Hotel Antik is preferable to the 7 Angels Hotel - which once we saw it we were sure it would have been even louder as drunken tourists stagger back through the central Mala Strana to their hotels.

One other warning is that although hairdryers are available, there are only two which are available to be checked out from the front desk. The pre-dinner shower rush meant that the guests were passing the hairdryers from room to room. Of course, this can be solved by bringing your own...

Belfast, Ireland

We have just returned from a 5 night stay in Prague. The Hotel Antik is situated in a street, literally a two minute walk to the Old Town Square. We booked this online and the internet did not do this quaint, full of character hotel justice. The location of the hotel is excellent, being situated in the Old Town Square, beside the clock, yet close to great bars and eateries. Such bars and eateries I would recomend are all next door to each other, just off the Square, would be Mama Lucy\'s, The Pizzeria beside the irish bar, Cafferys, and directly across from the Hotel Antik, is the Bombay Cocktail bar, which is also very good! Or if you fancy a late one, you could call into Harley\'s, just a few steps down from the Hotel Antik. Prague is one of the cleaniest and friendliest places I have visited and the food is delicious!

The Hotel Antik, was spotless and had lots of atmosphere. We stayed in room 304, which was excelent and had a balcony, although the Attic room looked beautiful and the rooms on the second floor had beautiful large balconies over looking the well maintained and beautiful Courtyard garden. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, maid service everyday and the mini bar very resonable. Breakfast although basic, really wasnt bad at all. The hotel had no lift, so the stairs might be a problem for some. Would really highly recomend this hotel for its, character, location and cleanliness. Wouldnt stay anywhere else in Prague! Would highly recomend that girls, bring only flat shoes. The cobbled pathways and roads are not easy to walk on in heals and the windy streets are deliciously spooky!

Please go visit this historic romantic place and this beautiful Hotel!
