Hotel Waldstein

Edinburgh

The Waldstein is a great hotel, situated below the castle and next to the Parliament. It is on located on a no through road so there is very little noise. The rooms were very clean and large. The bathrooms were also great, modern and clean.

Breakfast is included and is a help yourself buffet. Mostly breads, fruit, cereal but there is also some hot food if you want this. Not much in the way of service, but that was fine for me, you can eat all you want and you can eat healthily.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Prague.

The minibars are great value too, not as cheap as going out and buying it yourself, but at around the equivalent of one euro for a beer, very reasonable.

Uppsala

Me, my wife and our 6 and 8 years old children stayed in this charming hotel a couple of nights on a visit from Sweden in the end of october. Having read the trip-advisor reviews on Waldstein, we had a slight fear of the obviously so common overbooking/relocation problem when checking in. (This is really not acceptable for a four star hotel!!). However, our stay was without any complaints!

We actually had booked two double rooms but the concierge suggested a family suite instead. This meant a stay in a different but almost as old building (at least 17th century) just nearby in the Waldstein complex. The apartment was spacoius and beautiful, equipped with robust old-style furniture + ancient painted logs in the ceiling of the bedroom. There was a small kitchen, kitchenware, fridge and even a washing machine. The beds were very comfortable. I think the view was quite nice with the cupola of St Nicholaus visible over the rooftops. The medieval breakfast cellar had great charm and the buffet was nice (even if we didn´t use the opportunity to celebrate with sparkling wine for breakfast!).

The Waldstein is located right in the middle of beautiful Malá Strana on a secluded street. During 27 years I have visited Prague repeatedly and stayed in many different parts of the city centre before, including the middle of Stare Miesto, but I couldn´t imagine a better location than this.

Helsinki, Finland

I was in Prague with my daughter and we stayed at the Hotel Waldstein. We returned home yesterday but I must say that we miss Prague and Hotel Waldstein already!!
We were very satisfied, our room was warm and clean. The bed was fine and we surely had no sleeping problems! We didn`t here any kind of noise, it was very peaceful though the hotel probably was full.
Breakfast was sufficient and tasted good. And the cellar where the breakfast was served was so romantic, and I noticed that there were also sparkling wine available!! Wow, that´s something!
The service at the hotel was quite good though occasionally
it wasn`t too friendly. But we were happy and everything went just great, we have nothing to complain about. Generally we were very pleased and surely will travel to Prague again! My dauhgter is twelve years old and she just fell in love with Prague! Well, that´s no wonder... We only had two hole days, sunday and monday, and at the both days we just walked hours and hours as we wanted to see as much as possible. Well, I think we saw much, but there must something left to see, for the next time!!
The Hotel Waldstein.. I recommend!!!

St Andrews

Technical problems seem to occur frequently at the Waldstein. We arrived to find a letter telling us we would have to stay at the Monastery Hotel and a complimentary taxi would be given in the way of compensation, Big Deal. Thankfully the new hotel was situated high above Prague at the Strahov Monastery , a beautiful setting with wonderful views and only minutes way from the castle. This area is quiet, clean and very picturesque. Restaurants in this area are cheap, abundant and serve excellent food. I can thoroughly recommend the U Zavesenyho kafe (The Hanging Coffee Cup)for good beer and food . A great city with many attractions .

Sheffield, England

Just returned from a stay at the waldstein and generaly agree with most of the previous reviews it is a lovely hotel in a great position, but for me it had one major problem.
We were booked into room number one which is located near the reception and through a waiting lobby which adjoins the room, recently fitted no more than 1 metre from your door is a nice shiny computer complete with free internet connection. Now this is great unless you occupy room 1, and if you do, well you certaintly won\'t get any sleep other than between the hours of 11 pm and 8 am as the walls are wafer thin and even keyboard typing can be heard. If this isn\'t enough you also will have to navigate your way around numerous other guests who congregate around the doorway and , believe it or not in one case, don\'t always move aside. Now if the typing hasn\'t woken you up yet, then maybe the t.v will have, which they have also kindly fitted for the internet users friends to sit and watch while they wait and have rather loud conversations about which search engine etc they should using, and sometimes is left on until the early hours.
Now i know it does sound like i really hated my stay at the waldstein but i do think it is a lovely hotel unless you stay in the room i did, but you have to ask yourself is it really worth the risk of having too when there are so many great hotels in Prague.
So until they move the computer i won\'t be taking the chance again.
