Hotel Mucha

NYC

This is a WARNING for all future hotel guests: please guard your purses/handbags and valuables in the hotel lobby. My friend\'s handbag was stolen on the wooden bench directly opposite the hotel receptionist\'s desk when we were checking in. We had our backs turned to our bags as we were filling out the hotel forms when someone walked out with the handbag. After much prodding and nagging on our part, the receptionist called the police to file a police report and viewed the security surveillance but it was no use since the thief was wearing a hood.

The attitudes of the hotel staff were horrible. They were in foul moods and rolled their eyes at our questions. For example, when I asked for walking directions for a nightclub, the receptionist stared at me like I was stupid and replied, \"Walk to the square and ask someone.\" Another hotel guest asked him if he was having a seizure because he was rolling his eyes so hard. It took four hours to send up toilet paper to our room.

The rooms itself were musty and drab. Paintings of the Virgin Mary and Jesus stare down at you. Twin beds are nailed together. There was no AC in our room.

The only positive points were the free internet, free breakfast, and the close proximity to the metro and tram. The hotel is one stop from the train station. If I were to do it again, I would stay at a hotel closer to the center of town and forget the Mucha ever existed.

La Costa, CA

I am a seasoned traveler and normally review all my hotel choices thoroughly before booking. I read the reviews about this hotel here as well as with the travel service I used. I was disappointed in my choice here.

There are good and bad with this hotel, so I will start with the good: location is very close to the train and bus station...I mean right next door. If you need to access that, it is great. There is also a supermarket right next door as well, very convenient. The lobby restaurant called Viaduct is SUPERB. Aewsome Italian food and low prices, exceptional service. This was the best thing about the hotel. Our room was 72 (there are only 7 floors so we were at the top) was decent...large and had a small patio with a table to sit outside. It also had AC (which NOT all the rooms have). The bed was comfortable, good water pressure and it was clean. There is also a free safe in the room, which is very useful. There is a free computer in the lobby with interent access, also convenient.

With that being said, the 3-star rating it has is a huge gift, as this is NOT a 3-star hotel under the lowest possible standards. It is a solid 2-star. Had I known we would not have stayed there.

The location is, to use my husband\'s word...seedy. We did walk back and forth from the town center every night and had no problems, but there were some scary people and places we had to walk by to get back to the hotel. The same day we checked in (we found this out later) another group of 4 people also checked in from NYC. It had been pouring down rain and they took a bus to the hotel. They brought in all their luggage, etc and placed it directly in front of the front desk, which is well within the lobby area and far from the front (and only) door. Well, someone walked all the way into the lobby, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, grabbed one of the purses, tucked it under his sweatshirt, and walked out. This was all caught on the lobby closed-circuit camera. But the clerk did not see it nor did the guests. The hotel was, from what I was told, unapologetic, and would not even comp one night or even upgrade the room. It was very shocking to me. But that is the neighborhood this hotel is in. Again, this did not happen to us. But we heard about it directly from the victtims.

The front desk staff was sometimes nice and sometimes down right unpleasant. Depended on who was on-duty. We had 2 nice ones and one rather cranky clerk. The nice one brought us up towels and came back again as we could not figure out the safe and he refused to even let us tip him, and I really tried. He was adamant that was his job.

If you are looking for a budget hotel and plan on using the trams etc this is a decent hotel. It is not for families with kids or people who want a 3-star location. I would not go back here, nor, to be really honest, would I want my 21 yr old son to stay here if he came to Prague.

Hope this is helpful.

York

I would love to write a review of this hotel. I pre booked 2 months ahead. On arrival I had a letter shoved in my face telling me because of \'technical\' difficulties I had to be moved to another hotel. No one spoke to me as I had a bottle of cheap sparkling wine thrust into my hand. Luckily my taxi driver from the airport transfer service was sweet enough to take me the next hotel - he got the wine. I won\'t be bothering with this hotel again.

Clitheroe, United Kingdom

There was a party of 7 of us staying here for my hen weekend. The hotel was very clean and the rooms nice, if a little dim and very hot! There are paintings by Mucha round the hotel as you will expect. We were not told beforehand that the bar was closed so we had to have drinks from our minibars and sit in reception which was not great for us, and the hotel staff did not seem to like it either! Breakfast - we were not told where to go to eat, when we found the breakfast room there was a sign on the table saying that eggs are made to order, however the one waitress completely ignored us so we got up and left in the end. The cold option of greek salad did not inspire us, athough there was juice, cereal and coffee.

The location is a little further away than we would have liked to be, but we didn\'t know that before we went. Transport though is fine, you can get the tram more or less outside - we had taxis booked by the hotel. Watch out for the taxi drivers though as most of them are keen to rip you off if they get the chance. Dont have a taxi that is parked by Coyotes just off Old Town Square as they charge 3 times as much as the others!

Do go on a trip to see the dancing water fountains, this was really enjoyable. Prague itself is a very pretty place and there are plenty of sightseeing opportunities, a walk over Charles Bridge is a must.

watch out for service charges put on your bills too, they can get very expensive!

Overall for the price we paid for this trip, it was fine!

Grand Rapids, MI

Arrived by prearranged taxi service from airport. Totally recommend doing this. Check-in was okay - the room wasn\'t ready so we hopped on the internet, which was free in the lobby. The computer was the best thing about our stay. The breakfast was not very good. Our room was spacious, but musty. The highlight were the few budbegs that we encountered - ugh! Old hotel, front desk staff was lukewarm about helping you. Close to the underground - easy to navigate around the city from this location. Won\'t stay at this hotel again.
