Prague, Czech Republic Hotels and Apartments

The Leonardo is a wonderful hotel in a perfect location to stay in Prague. Travelling with 4 women, including my 83 year old mother, we found the area very convenient and safe. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. My mother walks with a cane, and I let them know in advance that we were looking for rooms that wouldn\'t require any steps. We ended up with two rooms side by side that worked out perfectly for us.
What we enjoyed the most were the little special touches - musicians in the lobby (piano and violin one night, an accordian player another night), a little cup of tea in the restaurant after a day of walking in the rain, the big breakfasts in the morning, being able to check my email on the computer in the lobby each day. And all the employees were very nice, especially attentive to my mother, helping her with the breakfast buffet, for example.

The rooms were in excellent shape, very clean and spacious. The first floor had several sitting areas, little nooks and crannies to sit and read the paper or wait for someone. There is a nice courtyard in the middle with patio tables, which we weren\'t able to make use of with the rain and/or snow everyday - guess that is why it is cheaper in November!
We ate at quite a few restaurants right in the area, and all of them were very good and reasonable. And yes, the beer in Prague is excellent, plentiful and cheap!

We arrived about 8:00 AM, well before check-in time. Nonetheless, a room was made available for us. Surprisingly, they offered my wife and me breakfast even though it was not supposed to be included on this day. The people at the reception desk were very helpful. They all spoke English fluently, as well as several other languages. After completing the check-in paperwork, the desk clerk showed us to our room. Our luggage arrived just a few minutes later. The two young men who brought the suitcases scurried off before I could give them a tip. They clearly were not looking for one.

The room was very clean and quiet. It was large, with a good size bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The TV received two English stations (BBC and CNN.)

The breakfast is truly amazing. They have a very broad offering of high quality food. There are a wide variety of fresh breads, cereals, pastries, nuts, seeds, scrambled eggs, fish, meats, cheeses, yogurt, jellies, jams, fresh and dried fruits, etc. The coffee was excellent (and my wife and I are very picky about good coffee.) Each cup is individually brewed in a machine which takes only a minute or so. The breakfast is self-service, but there are plenty of staff around to refresh the foods, answer questions, and just generally make sure that the guests have a good experience. They were friendly and most spoke English. There were both the Financial Times and Herald Tribune newspapers available everyday.

Some evenings there was a piano player in the lobby. The lobby was large, clean and well decorated. There was free internet available on their computer. When we checked in, they gave us a coupon for a free bottle of wine in their restaurant, but we never went there.

The hotel is close to key tourist points of interest… Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, are only minutes away by foot. There are several good restaurants right near the hotel, with many more options not far away.

I realize that this sounds like I’m writing an advertisement for the Leonardo Hotel. It was truly a very positive experience for us. The only minor complaint that we had was that there was only one mirror in the room. A second would have been helpful.
