Hotel Leonardo

Slough, Berkshire

Our stay at the Leonardo was a joy. Apart from a few slight imperfections, the building, the staff and the fact that you felt as if they cared about you made all the difference.

We only had two nights in Prague so were keen to have a hotel close to the centre of the city to make the most of our visit. I had left it late to book and didn’t have time to look at a lot of alternatives so settled for a rate more expensive than I would normally have done (£250 two nights, two people, double room).

The Leonardo hotel is exquisitely presented in a narrow side street. The front is attractive and clean and the first impression on entering is of a smart, clean urban hotel. When we presented ourselves at reception, the general manager was called who immediately came out of his office to introduce himself. I don’t suppose he does this to every guest (and I don’t think we were picked out for particular attention for any reason other than he had time) but I don’t know of any other hotel where the general manager would bother like this at all.

After a pleasant chat, the receptionist took us to our room while a porter took our bags. Service at this point was impeccable and remained so during our stay. The ground floor is spacious with lots of quiet, comfortable places to relax. Newspapers are freely available and there is a computer on hand to browse the internet with.

The rest of the hotel proved to be equally smart, clean, modern and impeccably fitted and furnished. Our room was on the top floor with a small skylight set in the pitch of the roof which overlooked the courtyard, no views here and minimal light. The room itself was very comfortable if a little small, with a small kitchenette and a very compact bathroom (i.e. small but with a well thought out layout). Furniture and fittings were of a very high standard, in fact the whole hotel looked as if it has just undergone a major refurbishment with no expense spared.

Breakfast is in the basement (an attractive room), there was a good choice of food but unfortunately there were not enough tables for all the guests who chose the same time as us. We had to get our food and then go upstairs to the ground floor bar where more tables were set up. This seems to be a major flaw in the hotel set-up which they will struggle to resolve but there are more than enough smiling, friendly staff to help out.

The Leonardo is just round the corner from the Charles Bridge and so is very close to the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Prague is best seen on foot and the Leonardo puts you on the threshold of it. We spent some of our two evenings in a bar some thirty metres or so from the hotel which appeared to be favoured by locals and students (good atmosphere) and offered food and beer at prices that don’t rip you off (unlike some of the cities tourist trap bars) – this is well worth a visit.

Essen

QUEJANA-ALAVA, Spain

ESTABAN DESBORDADOS EN EL SERVICIO DE DESAYUNO. CORTOS DE PERSONAL EN EL COMEDOR A LA HORA DE CENAR.MATRIMONIOS DE EDAD MEDIANA. EL HOTEL EN SU CONJUNTO ES MEJOR DE QUE LO QUE SE PRESENTA EN LA PAGINA WEB. SE NOTA MUCHA VOLUNTAD PERO FALTA RODAJE, ESTA RECIEN REMODELADO. PERO HAY OTRA SERIE DE CUALIDADES QUE LO COMPENSAN, MUY BIEN.

Lichfield,uk

My husband and myself visited Prague over the August Bank holiday weekend, It was magnificent. Nothing can prepare you for the breathtaking beauty of Prague. Every corner, every street reveals more mind blowing vistas and buildings.

We chose to stay at The Leonardo as its location seemed to be quite central and it was reasonably priced.
The hotel itself is a little non descript from the exterior but inside the rooms are warm, clean and spacious and beautifully decorated. The bed linens, towels, bathrooms etc are to a very high standard and bathrobes and slippers are a nice touch in all the rooms.

The breakfast room and restuarants are very authentically Czech and beautifully renovated. The breakfasts themselves were reasonable, though the hot breakfast was the same 3 items each morning. The location is excellent, just a couple of blocks away from the old town square. Waking up after an afternoon siesta to a man playing the piano and a fountain tinkling away in the courtyard was lovely.

The strange thing about this hotel is the air of \'lifelessness\' that abounds. it surprised me as the hotel seems so perfectly arranged but just lacks any atmosphere, but I think this could be due largely to the surly attitude of a lot of the staff. Our chambermaid and the doorman were lovely and very kind, helpful and friendly. The desk staff a different matter entirely..

I had emailed the hotel to request a river view room to which they had agreed, I was most dissapointed to find that when we got there we were told we could only have the river view rooms if we paid £50 per night to upgrade, Both myself and my husband thought this was a ridiculously large increase and so we declined. This seemed such a shame as one must assume that as we declined to upgrade the room it lay unused anyway.

On the Saturday evening we returned to the hotel, hoping to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine in the bar, it was closed on a Saturday night, with no explanation which we also found dissapointing.

To summarise if we were visiting Prague again I would not choose to stay at the Leonardo, When you stay in the city you will come across so many places to stay that are so charming and full of character you would not choose to stay in this really quite souless hotel again.

Whilst there try a restuarant called Bella Vista this is up near the vineyards around the monastery, the views there are breathtaking and encompass the whole of Prague city we spent a lovely afternoon there. The food is very good. We ate at a different restuarant every lunchtime and evening and never had a dissapointing meal, the food is superb.
We travelled around one afternoon in a horse and carriage which was a fantastic experience.
We loved our visit to Prague and will definetly be there again in the not to distant future. We fell in love with this City.
