Hotel At The Charles Bridge

West Sussex, ENGLAND

We arrived back home today after a three night stay in the Archibald at the Charles Bridge in Prague.

We loved it. We recently stayed in a very glam, modern hotel in London, so we were looking for something a little different. We certainly found it in this hotel! The building is very old and so it doesn\'t have a lift. We were on the second floor and this wasn\'t a problem at all.

We asked for a river view and that\'s what we got. The room was more like an apartment, it had a little hall and a nice bathroom. The beds were indeed two pushed together, but this seems to be the norm in Prague. The room was nice and warm with plenty of windows.

There is no room service but we were allowed to grab a tray and take food from the breakfast buffet to our room.

There is a restaurant attached and the food is good enough for your first night in Prague, just simple and relaxing. 10% off drinks and food in the bar too if you add it to your hotel bill. That was a nice surprise.

The staff are helpful and are happy to book taxis and give you directions. The lobby isn\'t fancy, but what do you need from a lobby?

The desk is 24hr too so you can come back at all hours of the day.

I will come back to Prague one day and I will be staying at the Archibald Hotel @ the Charles Bridge. The location is the best, the staff friendly and the rooms beautiful.

Ireland

We stayed in this hotel for the New Year for 4 nights. I booked this hotel based on the reveiws here. I must admit to being somewhat disappointed in some ways, maybe its because I expected a bit more. The location was great as reported, and it was very quiet which is one of the main reasons I booked it, but the hotel did not live up to my 4 star expectations. I knew it had no lift, but it also had no lobby as such, you practically fell down three steps when you arrived in the front door to a small narrow reception. I kept reminding myself that we were staying in one of the oldest locations in Prague and the hotel building reflected that. The double bed was literally two beds stuck together as previously mentioned and the furniture was old. The bar/restaurant wasn\'t great either. We only took breakfast one morning and that was enough. The \'hot food\' was cold and it was enough to put you off. It was very near all the attractions though and that was a great bonus.

Prague itself in my opinion is a beautiful city but is a complete rip off. Being from Ireland we are used to paying over the odds for everything, but we found Prague a lot more expensive than home. All the restaurants had set menus for New Years Eve and unbelievably charged 142 euro per person for a three course meal!! Outrageous! We were charged nearly 20euro for two coffees and two small cakes in a cafe near the square! It was 14euro a head for breakfast in O\'Reillys Irish Pub, when you add a coke and juice to that, breakfast for two cost nearly 40euro! We had dinner in \'Hot\' restaurant in Wenseles square and it was very nice and worth the money we paid. We also had dinner in \'La Casa Argentina\", a great spot down Dhoula Street. We tried \'Cowboys\' restaurant and that was very good as well. If you\'re off to Prague bring comfortable shoes, no heels, and a big wallet. Stay in the Archibald but don\'t expect luxury and I think you\'ll be ok.

Adelaide, Australia

We have recently returned from Prague and stayed at the Archibald at the Charles Bridge. It is a great location. We had a room on the second floor with a view of the river. The room was quite spacious with an entrance foyer containing two cupboards and a spotless bathroom. It is right at the bottom of the Bridge and it is only a short walk across the bridge to all the major sights. Breakfast was plentiful and excellent. We dined at the hotel restaurant next door because it appeared to be well patronised by the locals and we were pleased with the meal. Only downside is the hotel, being so old, has no lift, but the benefits far outweighed that small problem. Desk staff were polite and gave good information. We would definitely return and recommend it highly ...especially for the good price they offer.

Limerick

I went to Prague for the first time with my boyfriend. We are both in our 20s. We wanted a nice sightseeing break. Booked this hotel through reservehotel.com, was definitely the cheapest rate. 250 euro for 3 nights. We were so pleasntly surprised when w arrived. Transport by taxi in prague is renowned for being unpedictable and expensive so the locatio of this hotel is amazing. We were literally at the charles bridge. Near loads of lovely restaraunts in lesser town. 5 mins from the old town and a 10 minute walk up to the castle. It was also only a ten minute walk to all the shops in the city too. Te room iself was fantastic!! More like a little apartment than a hotel room. Very very spacious and airy. Big Bathroom and great shower! My ONLY complaint really was that it was not a double bed but 2 twins pushed together and a bit of a gap. Bar that no problems! There is s a minibar in the room and the prices are a little dearer than if you left the hotel but we used it anyway and racked up a billl of about 900ck (about 35 euro) but when were checking out, they only charged us 500csk (about 20). If you have never been to prague and want a fab hotel in a great location go here!!!I cant think of anyone who it wouldnt suit!

Bristol

This hotel is in the perfect location. It is as close to one of the best locations in Prague, the Charles Bridge as you could want, this is also an excellent landmark for finding your way around the City. It is right next to the river and in a very quaint square but was not noisy. Perfect!

We took the bus (No.119) and the metro to the closest stop and then walked the rest. This was a 5-10min walk and was a nice way to start the holiday. A Taxi would have cost around £20. The bus/metro option cost under £2 for two of us.

The main attraction of his hotel is that it is close to everything but still far enough away so as not to be ruined by 100s of folk walking past the hotel making lots of noise.

We stayed here at the end of October of 2007 for 3 nights. This was in half term but was still considered by most people as being off season. This was great as it meant we did not spend hours queuing for any of the attractions.

When we were given our room overlooking the main square we were told straight away that we could change rooms if we were not entirely happy, there was however no need the room was great. The reception staffs were incredibly friendly and informative.

The room was large with a good en-suite shower room. There was no bath but this was not an issue as we would not have used it anyway.

Breakfast was a good continental spread with the usual assortment of eggs, sausages and bacon. Lots of cold meat, bread and cheeses to chose from. A very good start to the day!

The only negative thing I could say about the room was the bed. It was 2 twins pushed together. One mattress would have been better. They were comfortable, but still...

Prague is an incredibly beautiful place! Our stay at the hotel helped make it a great experience. I would have no problems with staying at this hotel again.
