Grand Hotel Praha

Chicago, Illinois

I should start by saying that I never bother to write any sort of product/service reviews. Ever. My experience in this hotel has compelled me to alter my habits. This hotel is great. The location is simply second to none: right on the old town square directly across from the astronomical clock. You get to smugly watch all the people watching the clock. When you don\'t want to hear the clock, close both sets of windows and you get instant quiet. Our room was immaculate with a king size bed and separate shower/baths. The hotel has wireless, an office area with computer, a sauna, great breakfast, and an outdoor/indoor cafe at the ground level.

This is an amazing hotel. Not only is the location absolutely brilliant in its centrality (and for people watching--right on the square), but the rooms are incredible. We especially loved the beautiful hard wood floors, carved bed and tables, those lovely European individual feather beds that envelope you, the separate rooms for tub/sink and shower/toilet/bidet, two huge armoires, and the sauna upstairs. And the free channel of adult programming, but don\'t tell anyone. Our room faced the astronomical clock, but despite the crowds, the noise level in our room was next to zero. We also got an amazing rate (4 nights for the price of 3), which put it at less than half the average rate posted here on Trip Advisor. We will never stay anywhere else in Prague if we can help it. They packed breakfasts for us the morning we were driven to the airport in a spacious Mercedes by a large, handsome bouncer-looking fellow decked out in a great suit (at 5 in the morning, nice), even taking into account that we had drunk every bottle of sparkling water in the minibar--they packed us two huge bottles, which subtly illustrates the extremely high level of customer service at this establishment. The Grand Hotel Praha has the best hotel breakfast spread I have ever experienced, bar none, and the first floor is a beautiful patisserie and gelato cafe (which means the whole hotel smells like a fresh, warm pastry). And since the whole square outside the hotel is filled with outdoor cafes, even at night and in the winter (heaters and umbrellas!), it was the perfect place for a nightcap before walking 200 feet to our room. Amazing, and totally romantic.

We cannot say enough good things about the hotel. There is no way you can get the better location and view in Prague as the hotel is located just opposite the Astronomical Clock and Old Town Square.
We stayed there for 2 nights for my boyfriend’s birthday between 5th and 7th of March 2006. We had amazing room with a view overlooking the clock.
The bed was very big and comfortable and the bathroom was clean and lovely. I wouldn\'t hesitate to recommend the hotel and would suggest that you request a room with a view of the square. (this costs about 20-40 euro more per night, but you will enjoy every penny of it)
Breakfast is very good as well and offers variety of choices (continental buffet style). The staff were kind and helpful.

this hotel was great, our party stayed here and at its sister hotel apostolistic residence for 7 nights from 29th November last year when we got married we booked 10 rooms and were given a discount of 10% and we were upgraded free of charge to the best room in the hotel (only in my opinion) it was huge and overlooking the clock which is supposed to cost extra, the bed was the biggest i have ever seen and the bathroom was simply great.
the breakfast was nice too, plenty of hot bacon and eggs, a good selection of cerals, cakes and fruit and nice staeaming hot filter coffee.
as a nice touch the hotel left us a bottle of champagne and a card on the day of our wedding, all the staff were really nice in general, i dealt from start to finish with a lady called jana she is also great i ammended my booking several times and she was always nice and helpful i could not fault the service of this hotel its the best and nicest hotel i have ever stayed in, the waiters in the cafe and restaurant are very nice also but the food in the restaurant is not the best in town and is very overpriced i would reccomend kolkovna we had our reception there and for 25 people having a 3 course meal several bottles of wine a few cocktails, a few double jd\'s and coke and it came to about £400.

As far as location goes, this couldn\'t be bettered. The reasonable cost of the hotel makes this a star find. The staff were most helpful and the rooms were clean and cosy. Our only criticism was that we were in room 216, which, whilst it doesn\'t overlook the square was noisy due to an air conditioning unit outside the window and the fact that the room overlooked the courtyard used by kitchen staff. Whilst this doesn\'t sound terrible, it was very audible at night and did disturb our sleep. Nevertheless, I wouldn\'t hesitate to recommend the hotel and would just suggest that you request a room with a view of the square.
Breakfast is included in the price and is well worth going (continental buffet style), similarly, the breakfast room doubles as a cafe and bar at night and is a pleasant vantage point.
As regards getting to the hotel - use the white mini buses parked outside the airport, which charge a set fare of about 480k for the 2 of you and will take you to the door of your hotel. You can also book them for your return journey. We found them to be reliable and helpful.

Had it not been for the noise, this review would have given 5 stars. Prague itself lived up to all expectations, and we were fortunate to go while the Christmas market was up and running. Highly recommended.
