Hotel Adria

Ireland

Hotel Adria is situated on wenceslas square in walking distance to the museum and mustek metro. The hotel itself is rated four star and indeed is of a good standard.Unfortunately the staff let it down.It seems that the higher up in position the staff get the worse their attitude. The bar staff and doormen are extremely friendly and helpful but thats where it stops. The rooms are medium in size and well decorated.Room service is excellent. The main bar is tiny and expensive by prague standards. It would only hold about 20 people before it runs out of room. The main restaurant "The triton" is underground and is tastefully decorated.Again it is small and is no way the size it appears in websites.Food is served until 12pm.Again the menu is seriously overpriced and portions are small. The restaurant is not even mentioned in any Prague guide to justify their prices.Breakfast is served from 7-10am buffet style. If staying I would advise you to eat early as in the five days I stayed there things like the chilled orange juice machine ran out every morning and werent refilled. It seems that you are disuaded from taking your breakfast at a leisurely pace as its difficult getting a second cup of coffee from the staff.Asking for a top up gets you glowering looks and other patrons remarked the same. A 25cl bottle of water which can be purchased on the main street costs 15 crowns. This same bottle will cost you 65 crowns from your minibar. In all the hotel is well appointed and is four star quality.Everthing in it is seriously overpriced and would be a lovely place to stay If 50% of the staff were replaced.Unfortunately the 50% that needs replacing are the ones you deal with on a day to day basis.

California

My wife and I stayed at the hotel from December 16-24 and overall we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very clean as was the hotel. The room and bed were very comfortable. The bathroom was also very clean and comfortable, it had excellent water pressure and an added bonus was the superb acoustics in the shower for singing :-) If you are worried about cleanliness or comfort, there is no reason to worry.

The downside to the hotel is that the staff can be rude and blunt. They charged us for a coke and some alcohol from the minibar that we didn't use and it took me pulling teeth for them to drop the charges. Basically the customer service was bad but you can't really expect much more from people who are just learning capitalism and english, it must be frustrating at times especially considering many foreign travelers are pretty arrogant.

If you stay at the hotel i would advise against eating or drinking there because it is extremely expensive they also charge you 100crowns for using the internet for 15 minutes. They nickel and dime you for everything.

If you are looking for a place to rest your head and sing in the shower, than this is definitly the spot. but if you are looking for a hotel to eat and drink in than I would look elsewhere.

Oh yeah the breakfast is free and it is very good with a lot to choose from. We were there first thing in the morning so there were never any problems with food running out.

the hotel adria is in the heart of wencellelas square in the heart of prague in a very central position it is a 4 star hotel very clean and comfortable i suggest you ask for a room at the front so you can see all the activity in the square it is right in the main shooping area and all attractions are within easy reach it is 50 metres from the mustek metro station .night clubs are very close and so are a selection off restuarants incuding fast food i certainley reccommend this hotel ...

Northern Ireland

We spent two nights in the Adria in March 2005. Hotel was very clean and is worth the four star rating. However our room was a lot smaller than we expected. When I tried to upgrade I was abruptly told "No, No, hotel full, can't do". Beware of the Triton restaurant as it can be very expensive and you are somewhat frowned upon if you only ask for a main course. Breakfast was plentyful and overall we were very pleased, especially with the hotel's location.

New York, NY

The hotel Adria neither detracted from nor enhanced our experience, but I felt it was not a good value. The rooms were clean, a pretty good breakfast was included in our room rate (vile coffee, though, in a city that has great coffee) hotel recently renovated, twin room modest in size, modern bathroom, but all lacking in charm. We had no view, though we'd asked for one, some rooms are said to overlook either Wenceslas Square or a monastery garden.

The rooms could have been rooms in any Marriott in any city. For a bit more money (or maybe the same rate) we could have had a charming hotel such as the Maximillian, and for less money we would have had perhaps a smaller room, or fewer amenities, but more charm. No washcloths, no tissues, no clock, but there was a minibar and built-in hairdryer. TV received one station in English, BBC World. Hotel provided a computer for internet access at 100 crowns for 15 minutes, about $4.

The Adria is on Wenceslas Square in New Town. Now that I’ve stayed in both Old Town and in New Town, there is no comparison imo. New Town, which I saw hardly any of during my previous visit to Prague, has much less charm per square inch than Old Town. Some have called Wenceslas Square ‘seedy’. I didn’t think so, as in most of Prague, the streets are pretty clean and I didn’t feel unsafe or offended. I just think it’s hectic and commercial and a bit like staying in New York’s Times Square 2005. The streets may be swept more often, but it’s still all hustle and cheap souvenir shops.

For the price, we did not think the Adria a good value and would not stay there again, but other than the hotel and the location being charmless and staff mimimally polite (tight frozen smiles, no warmth), I don't have any more specific criticisms.
