USA Have just spent 4 nights in this hotel and could not find fault with anything. Spacious, well-appointed room. Large bathroom with shower and whirlpool bath - very welcome after a day of walking around Prague. Satellite TV, a safe and plenty of cupboard space to add to very comfortable beds. Only disappointment was the lack of a kettle and tea/coffee-making facilty - hardly a serious flaw.
The lobby and restaurants were also well-appointed and tastefully decorated. The basement restaurant offers traditional Czech food at a reasonable price.
The breakfast buffet will set you up for the day - a huge choice and plenty of it. As other reviewers have said, the pancakes are excellent and freshly cooked to your specification.
We found the staff to be fairly cheerful and they would always offer a greeting when we passed. They were also helpful in arranging a taxi to airport but were not the overly pushy \"I\'ll take your bags, sir\" type of porter/concierge to be found elsewhere.
Travelling Around Prague - the hotel is almost on top of Mustek subway station, giving access to 2 of the 3 subway lines. Trams can be found 100 metres away on Vodickova. Buy a day or multi-day pass, they are excellent value and your feet will thank you.
Would I go back? A definite YES

Boston Location, Location, Location – the Ambassador’s spot on the lower end of New Town’s famous Wenceslas Square is ideal with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Its just minutes from Old Town Square and within walking distance of most of the major sites. And just steps from a Metro stop.
The property has 162 rooms and 33 suites; our room, a decent size by any standard with lots of closet space was newly refurbished. The decor was lovely, in shades of blue, gold and white. Satelite TV, safe and mini-bar etc.are present and accounted for, The bathroom, newly renovated as well, had a hydrotherapy tub. a separate shower and my favorite amenity, a make-up mirror. Our room was in the back of the hotel so it was quiet - the trade off was that it was a hike from the elevators. The two small elevators move a bit slow but that\'s a small problem.
There is a pleasant open lobby bar, sort of café style ( more of a 3 star feel than 4 star) that looks out at the bustling activity of the boulevard and a breakfast room tucked away on the mezzanine level. The hotel offers a great full buffet breakfast with made to order omelets and crepes. You can have a quick and/or hearty meal and get an early start on your sightseeing or linger over coffee (American) and plan out your day.
Other dining venues include a basement-level pub with traditional Czech cuisine and a higher-end restaurant offering continental cuisine. And there is a casino and a nightclub.
We were a little surprised that they did not have a concierge but the staff on the desk was helpful, although they could be a bit brusque. They provided us with some great restaurant recommendations and made our reservations.
BTW there is a wonderful Tea House (Dobra Cojnova) directly across the street from the hotel. We stopped in early evening after a long day of sightseeing and before heading back to our room. It\'s a great spot destress and unwind.
All in all a great choice for Prague.

UK We have just returned from a weekend at the amazing Hotel Ambassador. It has been refurbished to a very high standard, retaining much of the character of its original fixtures and fittings and yet incorporating all the necessary modern facilities one would expect from a high quality modern hotel. Our room was huge with very comfy beds, a large TV and adequate storage, all in immaculate condition. The en suite was the height of luxury, a marble bathroom that contained a fabulous hydro-massage bath; there was a separate shower that I expect would be preferable for summer visitors. Before booking this hotel I had read several reviews and I have to disagree with those who expressed dissatisfaction with the lobby that was, I thought, perfectly adequate for a waiting area. I do, however, agree with those who said the staff were miserable. Despite their super efficiency and immaculate uniforms, the staff did indeed have a most peculiar demeanour; it was as if they had been trained not to show any emotion. Wherever we went in Prague, in museums, shops, concerts etc., however, there was the same attitude and despite my greatest efforts to be polite and appreciative, I did not receive a smile from anybody. It felt as though they were just tolerating our presence, accepting our tourist money but really unprepared to share their beautiful city. Perhaps they start smiling when the weather gets warmer OR perhaps this is a behaviour and attitude ingrained from the communist era. I do not think, therefore, that the criticism of the staff at this particular hotel is justified because their conduct was evidently an idiosyncratic national characteristic.
The breakfast was truly marvellous; the usual array of sumptuous breakfast goodies plus, total decadence, they even had chefs on hand to cook fresh omelettes or pancakes to ones requirements. We also ate in the Halali restaurant on both evenings which was equally superb, excellent choice on the menu, beautifully presented tableware and exceptional service even if without a smile! I certainly needed to go to the gym when we got home!
I found the number of beggars and sick looking peasant people in the general area of the hotel quite disturbing but the location of this hotel is perfect, very central for walking to all the main tourist attractions. We did the ten-minute walk back from a concert on one night that I think was a mistake because it certainly did not feel safe to be out and about after dark in this city. The taxis are also a problem because they will most definitely rip you off. To return to the airport, we booked the hotel car that was a very good service and half the price of the taxi journey from the airport to the hotel. I would therefore recommend contacting the hotel in advance of arrival and booking the car to avoid using the taxis. This hotel is true quality in every sense and I would love to return one day.

New York, New York My family travels a lot and always have been thankful for the reviews at this site - so, it is time for payback and for me to share my experiences. We stayed at the Ambassador in July 2005. A challenge for us is always finding a hotel in Europe that allows 2 adults and 2 children in one room.
We saw a great rate advertised on their own website and booked it. It turned out to be better than hoped for. The room was very spacious (we had an extra \'bedroom\' for the parents) which was a real plus. The bathroom was very large with a separate shower and jacuzzi.
At breakfast we felt like VIPs. All staff was gracious and helpful and even my fussy 11 year old loved the food (can\'t go wrong with fresh baked chocolate crepes)
THe hotel is also in a great location - easy walk to great restaurants, or the the metro trains. Also lots of great shopping in walking distance.
Prague was a fun city with lots to see and great food. If we were to go back there,we would definitely stay at this hotel again.

UK Stayed at the Alexander last weekend, with a group of friends. Excellent location, right in the middle of everything. Room was big and spotless. We had a room over the main square. It wasnt noisy and diddn\'t keep us awake, baring in mind we were out till the small hours ourselves. Breakfast was nice, fairly good choice, if its not there ask and they will help. Will stay there again, as long as I get a good deal with the price.
