Belfast The Ambassador Hotel is in an excellent location right on Wenceslas Square with all the big name shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, etc. in the immediate vicinity. A pleasant five minute walk takes you through quaint cobbled streets into Old Town Square, and about 10 mins walk to Karlov Bridge. Our visit (mid December 04) coincided with the fabulous Prague Christmas markets, some of them only a few steps away. We all felt safe even though we had read about watching out for pick pockets etc
It’s five star status is perhaps ambitious by international standards, but certainly I would rate it a very good four star. The reception area is welcoming, fitted out in marble, trimmed with brass, enormous chandeliers and ornate plasterwork. Two small lifts serve the six upper floors.
Rooms were pleasantly furnished, and spotlessly clean. They appeared to have under floor heating, as well as radiators. Even though it was minus 5 outside, they were a little on the warm side especially with the duck down duvets. Rooms also had a free, easy to use room safe, illuminated wardrobe, TV and mini bar. Beds were a bit lumpy, frames creaked and although adequate, could do with being renewed. The bathroom was the 5 star bit, grey/white marble and chrome, complete with jacuzzi bath, quality toiletries and luxurious towels and bathrobes.
The breakfast buffet was good, but not comprehensive enough for a 5 star. Cereals were limited to the Czech brands, (no kelloggs here!). However there was a plentiful selection of cold meats, cheese, bread rolls, yoghurt, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg etc. You could have omelette or crepes made fresh at the buffet.
Staff at reception were very helpful in organising tours and exchanging money. We were in a mixed group and everyone found the hotel to be excellent. We all felt we had chosen well, and can’t wait to return!

Hong Kong We were there for 3 nites and the room were really good. Extremely spacious and clean. Staff are quite helpful and it\'s definitely central located. Near the tram, subway and pretty much closed to all major transportation and attractions. Walking distance to the Opera house, the HL.N main railway station. People there are quite friendly. Just be careful of your wallet. We paid about EU165 (all inclusive) per nite. Oh yeah, the breakfast is good too.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma November 2003 We had a great room overlooking St. Wencelas Square and loved it! Big room, great big modern bathroom, very good *hot* buffet breakfast! Not just cold croissants and fruit cocktail. We spent a long weekend in Prague and can\'t wait to go back. Since we took the sleeping train from western Germany, we arrived about 9am. We asked very politely if it might be possible to check into our room. The woman at the desk said she would see if she could accomodate us and gave me some tour brochures to look at while we waited. This is classic, as the hotel personnel get a kickback if they hook you up on the tour. This has happened to me nearly everywhere I\'ve been in the world. So we looked at the brochures and went back and very politely asked for a Prague highlights tour if it wasn\'t too late or too much trouble. Of course it wasn\'t, and our room was miraculously available as well!! This place is located within 15 min walking distance of the train station with no major terrain negotiation to contend with. We walked everywhere and easily found our way back to the hotel. We would easily go back to this hotel. PS, take the tour, it was worth it!

Ipswich This hotel was excellent and much much better than expected for the price. It is right in the centre of Prague where all the action and the shops are. The hotel itself is quite grand, large and airy with six floors (minor gripe - only 1 small lift). The staff are very friendly and helpful - most speak English, and check-in was quick with a complimentary glass of bubbly. I had a single room with a Jacuzzi bath which was totally unexpected. The room was quite compact with a TV showing satellite, a mini bar, a safe (at no extra cost to use) and plenty of hanging space. The room was very clean, well maintained and the bathroom was well equipped with toiletries and also very clean. The one negative issue was my mattress had a plastic over-sheet (which I soon got rid of).
Breakfast was a mix of European cold meats and the hot bacon and eggs option at no extra cost eaten in a large dining room.
Again the key selling point here is the location, within easy walking distance to all the major sights, clubs, restaurants and bridges. Don’t be afraid to take advice from hotel staff on where to go and so on - they helped me a lot. They also offer lots of other services for the single traveller if required!
I paid £40 ($60 US) for my room per night which I think is an absolute bargain. I’d certainly stay here again.

UK We just returned from this hotel. Great location right in the middle of all famous sites, easily walkable. Rooms are sizeable with great views and still have charcter despite recent modernisations. Keep in mind that the hotel is right in the heart of all the action but, once inside your suite you can escape into complete privacy. Also regardless of which hotel you stay at the service level of the staff is not what we western Europeans, or North Americans are used to. The Czech hospitality is a more reserved one. I would ceratinly recoomend this hotel.
