Hotel Residence Seifert

Roma

We chose the Seifert based on other peoples reviews and we were not disappointed. We stayed on the top floor of the hotel and there are only 4 rooms per floor so while noise did travel there were not people continually passing by your room. It was a lovely big room with what we thought was a king size bed but turned out to be 2 singles cunningly disguised! No problem though. The whole decor of the room and hotel was bright and everything looked spotlessly clean and new. The bathroom had a wonderful power shower. I think other people may have commented on the TV being in an odd place in relation to the bed but we didn\'t watch much TV anyway. The minibar was very reasonably priced, although there is a much cheaper shop a few metres away. There are tea and coffee making facilities which is always a bonus. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of things both hot and cold.

Not much in the way of eateries around the hotel but a fantastic chinese directly opposite that was very cheap.
Centre of town is a few minutes on the bus for 14CK
Hotel staff very helpful with directions to places.

On a final rather sour note we should also point out the police station is close by. Despite constant warnings about pick pockets and being seasoned travellers we could not believe we managed to get our camera stolen from inside a deep rucksack on the bus. I was stood next to my husband the whole time and yet somehow someone got into the rucksack, into the camera bag, pinched the camera and did the rucksack back up. They are clever and apparently from what the hotel and police said this is very common on crowded public transport. It ruined our holiday and I cannot over emphasise how careful you need to be. We have travelled extensively in places we thought we were guarenteed to be robbed and are always careful. It is easy to think it won\'t happen to you but everyone is a target and it\'s a big problem in Prague.

Again, to add to previous comments, Hotel Seifert didn\'t disappoint. It might be the best value in town for its price range. The room was very clean, the breakfast was excellent, staff was friendly and helpful and the mini bar had all the snacks you need at reasonable prices. The lobby was dark very late at night but the receptionist will answer the door promptly if you ring the buzzer. It\'s located in the Zizcov area of Prague. Past reviewers called this neighborhood \"run down\" but I would just say the area isn\'t as prim as the touristy areas of the city. The people in Zizcov around hotel Seifert are friendly and the prices to shop, eat and drink are significantly less than in the Old Town and Castle areas. An excellent restaurant is located very close to the hotel. Simply walk across the street, turn right, go past the Thai massage/bowling alley and go on to the next street corner (Lukasova) which will have a restaurant. The menu is in Czech only and the waitstaff is not fluent in English but the food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. Also, notice the giant pretzels hanging from the pretzel tree at your table. They go great with a mug of beer and only cost 5Kr. Across the street, you\'ll find a supermarket for all of your needs.
I\'d also like to inform the reviewers about an alternative to taking the bus when you want to go to and from the hotel. To avoid the buses simply go out of the hotel, walk across the street, turn left and walk toward the bus stop. On the right, you\'ll see a tunnel that goes underneath the hill (Vitkov park). Go through the tunnel and walk straight down the street (Thamova) to the yellow B line metro station (about an 8 or 9 minute walk in total). Now you can directly catch the metro and avoid the bus. I took this shortcut many times. Also, this metro station is only one stop to the Florenc station (where the bus will take you) but it is much less crowded. The pizza restaurant (Antonios?) next to the metro station entrance is excellent. The beer is reasonable and a typical pizza is large enough for 2 and costs anywhere from 90 to 150 Kr!
I stayed out very late every night and walked back to my room from town. The city is very safe at night, especially as you get closer to the hotel and further from the tourist areas. The walk from Wenceslas Square to Seifert hotel takes about 40 minutes but don\'t be reluctant to walk late at night as again the city is very safe compared to Western Europe or the U.S.
One last note, a nice trip for the afternoon is to take a train from Hlavni Nadrazi (main train station) to Karlstejn castle. The ride takes about 40 minutes going through the suburbs of Prague and eventually to a very scenic, remote and quaint town and castle that looks like it belongs in Austria. It\'s a refreshing break from the noise, crowds, and pollution in Prague. It\'s a great place to bring a picnic and the return trip train ride costs a measly 65 Kr!

Seifert, Prague.
Was there 3 nights in the end of march - in a good single room.
Very good hotel - and cheap too
(96€ for 3 days - via \"hotellocator.cz\") .
My only problem was a too high temperature in the room - at home i always sleep with a window open.
I mentioned it at the reception, and via the computer they could give me a lower temperature at night.
Next time in Prague it will be Seifert again
