Pension 44

Adelaide, Australia

My friend and I spent three nights at Pension 44. The hostel is located close to the national museum and wenceslas square. Public transport also close by - trams, metro.

Our room was basic, but had everything we needed to see the sights of Prague, then come back, sleep in comfortable beds and take a hot shower to clean up. Our room had twin beds, a good-sized wardrobe, seperate bathroom and toilet, small fridge, a number of powerpoints allowing us to charge mobile phones, ipods etc.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. 24hr reception, with a buzzer outside so if you got stuck outside you could alert staff to let you back in.
Nice breakfast each morning.

All in all we found our stay to be fantastic and hassle free.
Would definantly recommend it!

San Antonio

I spent 8 nights at Pension 44 and am very satisfied. The room was basic but comfortable. There was plenty of space. It had 2 twin beds, a table and 2 chairs, a nice sized closet, a refrigerator, and a TV with Satellite tuner. The location was great in a nice residential area, close to the National Museum and only a block or so to the Metro or Tram. The staff were helpful and answered all our questions. Breakfast each morning was good and plentiful.

The pub \"Dog B*ll*cks\" reccomend by others has closed, but we enjoyed eating at Red Flower on Vinohradska for pizza and pasta.

Pension 44 is a great place for an extended stay in Prague because it is very well priced.

Manchester, England

Pension 44 is a very basic hotel, but clean and quiet. Good sized rooms, with 2 beds, wardrobe, bathroom, separate WC, table & chairs and extra large windows that all open.

The reception staff all speak English and reception is manned 24 hours, with a buzzer outside so they can let you in!

The lift is a little antiquated - bit like a little wooden box and it doesn\'t have a door! Works well enough though, so that\'s all that matters.

Complimentary breakfast is served every morning between 8am and 11am. It is laid out in 2 breakfast rooms, with about 3 / 4 tables in each, and consists of cereal, milk, fresh orange juice, tea, breads, butter, jams, ham & cheese - continually replenished so enough for everyone. Substantial enough to start your day!

Just a couple of little points about the rooms .... if you like a lot of pillows you may want to pack one! The towels aren\'t huge, but you get 2 each, hand towel and bath towel. There is a shower but it\'s a hand held and there\'s no shower curtain, this doesn\'t bother me, but just a pre-warning.

The street outside the Hotel tended to be quite noisy early in the morning, which probably wouldn\'t have been a problem had we not had to have the windows open due to the 100 degree heat!

Location wise the Hotel is perfect. Vinohrady is a lovely area of Prague - nice, quiet, peaceful. The tram stop / Metro (underground) station Namesti Miru is about a 2 min. walk around the corner. You can get to anywhere in Prage from here. The Metro is quicker than the tram, but the tram has more stops and obviously you get to see more of Prague! We never waited longer than 5 minutes for a tram or a train!

There are a few restaurants in the immediate area - a couple of nice ones with outside terraces just near Namesti Miru, overlooking a little park. There is an Italian / Pizza place there, I can\'t remember the name, but it begins with a \'C\' and it\'s next to a Chinese. My friend and I had a (pretty large!) pizza each and 2 beers each for around £12.

All in all, very convenient, cheap and nice place to stay in Prague. Would stay here again.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

My girlfriend and I stayed at Pension 44 for four nights. Even though the dark green carpet at the reception may induce to think otherwise, all the rooms at Pension 44 have been recently recycled and all the furniture, carpets, matresses, etc. are brand new. This place is a simple but very confortable and friendly place to stay.

Pension 44 is located five minutes from Wenceslas Square and in another five minutes you\'ll find yourself in the middle of Prague\'s wonderful Old Town. Of course you can always stay somewhere in the Old Time, but this will both require much more money and mean you\'ll run into crowds of tourists and (worse!) guided tours, just when you exit your hotel.

Staff is very friendly. They all speak english and are very helpful. I couldn\'t find any REAL exchange rate better than the one offered to me at the Pension. I think that Czech Crowns will not live for long, but in the meantime don\'t bother to change money at the Old Town because they always find a way of giving you much less than the announced.

Last but not least the breakfast at Pension 44 is great. And this is very important when visiting Prague during the winter!!!

Arnhem, The Netherlands

Firstly, the pension is very easy to find, just round the corner from Namesti Miru Metro, which connects with one change (to a bus) to the airport. With the very cheap cost of the multi-day public transport tickets I\'ve never got from an airport to a hotel so cheaply.

Check in was easy and quick, although the surroundings are very basic. All staff spoke english and also taught me some basic Czech phrases and seemed glad that I\'d asked.

We went up to the room in the oldest lift I\'ve been in (no door!) which was fun in itself but you\'d have to watch your kids.

The room was large, very clean and quiet, if sparsely furnished. Towels were terrible so you might want to bring your own.

Breakfast was nice and fresh although very crowded - have to agree that I had one sip of coffee during my entire stay and that was enough!

Overall, we spent so little time in the room that the basic nature of the place was never a problem at all. A great place to stay if you\'re on a budget, just need somewhere to lie down at night, and want somewhere fairly central. We\'d go back - and probably will as Prague is a wonderful city. (One tip - check your change everywhere you go as cashiers and taxi drivers seem to short change you as a matter of course.)
