Hotel Alchymist Grand and Spa

Maldon

My wife and I Stayed for a 3 night 4 day break, the hotel staff were exceptionally helpful. The hotel is a boutique hotel and the decor is amazing, and ideally located below the castle. In my opinion it represented good value

New York

From the moment their driver picked us up at the airport, I knew the hotel was going to be special. He was incredibly polite and professional and made no comment about waiting for over an hour for our delayed flight.

As you spot the property up a cobbled street it looks warm and inviting and even better than any of the photos on their website. The reception staff, bellboys and spa staff were all very welcoming and charming - any request was met with a smile and prompt response.

We stayed in two rooms - both of which were standard deluxe rooms. The first was more modern, generously sized with a great marble tiled bathroom and very opulent, baroque styled four poster bed. Very romantic. The second was at the back of the property in the eaves and more rustic, with timber beams and fantastic antique furniture. The bathroom was just as good as the one in the first room.

All of the communal areas are furnished in the same gilded, baroque style which works perfectly in Prague. The hotel has a warm, friendly feel, coupled with all the facilities expected from a large international chain. The spa and bar area are the perfect place to wind down after a days sightseeing.

It is on the pricey side, but in comparison to two other Prague hotels I have stayed in (Josef and U Zlate Studne) which were both nice, it represents excellent value. Probably the best smaller hotel I have stayed in. I had a wonderful, romantic stay there.

It’s almost impossible to put into words the unique, extravagant experience this charming hotel offers.
Since our arrival we felt like we were penetrating into a magical small castle that the time forgot!!
The palace is incredibly decorated with sensitivity but also with maximum comfort in mind. Our room was amazingly furnished with works of art and antiques. Internet connection was fast and free of charge. The marble bathroom was immaculately clean. Every night they came to fix the bed and leave some delicious chocolate pralines. We had a little balcony overlooking a small garden.
The property is so well located that we felt like staying at the old Plaza in New York or at the Ritz in Paris. All major sites and attractions are within 5-10 minutes walking distance. The staff at concierge desk was always very helpful and smiling; at each return from your adventuring you are greeted like a king. We met once the manager, a pretty young Czech lady, Veronica, and she was also so friendly and dedicate.
Every evening around 5 in the Baroque lobby they serve a nice wine and cheese testing, with typical Czech products. It is complementary for the hotel guests and we felt that was a nice and generous touch.
The Indonesian spa in the gothic cellars is simply amazing! So is the fitness, with a beautiful crystal chandelier suspended over the swimming pool!! We also found their Aquarius restaurant elegant and cozy, decorated with stunning scenic wallpapers of the French manufacturer Zuber. The only complain we may have is that the restaurant doesn’t provide a full 24 hours room service. And that is a pity for a hotel that pretends to be 5 star.
Anyway the hotel has exceeded our expectations and it\'s certainly good value. It is just a little more expensive then a normal 4 star hotel, but this fabulous retreat is well worth the splurge!
On the way back we stopped in Vienna, at the Imperial. It is always a fabulous place to stay!

I booked this Hotel solely on the excellent reviews given on the Trip Advisor website.
I must mention the helpfulness of Martina and Veronika at the hotel for their friendly and helpful emails, in the process of enquiring and booking our trip.
We had arranged for the hotel car to meet us at the airport(recommended). Our friendly driver was waiting for us, and in a short time we had been whisked to our hotel.
Our room was stunning (201). With wooden ceiling and full of warmth and character.
Fitness and spa facilities were very good. Always with attentive staff there to assist.
The chandelier over the pool was breathtaking.
Good to see that this hotel operates a later breakfast sitting time for the lazier of guests!!
We enjoyed the plush white robes and slippers, and in the evening chocolates were left by our pillows. On Valentines day we had apples with a heart design in the skin (I still cannot work out how this was done!) left in the room.
It was hard to leave the hotel at times because it was a pleasure to be there. But we had three nights of luxury and not having to checkout till 12noon was great.
We booked the hotel car again for our return to the airport a couple of days before leaving, unfortunatly there seemed to of been an error and when it came to leave someone else had the car out. There was much confusion and delay but we made it to the airport with 20mins to go before checkin closed.
Stay, you will enjoy.

We stayed here for 4 nights in Feb. The hotel is relatively small with 46 rooms, so the service always felt personal.

We were picked up from the airport in the hotel\'s Rolls Royce Silver Cloud - there\'s a supplement to pay but it\'s worth it for a special occasion.

The hotel is the epitome of Italian opulence. It is really over the top, but I think you either have to go for it 100% or not at all. We were worried before hand that it would be tacky, but it worked really well.

The spa in the basement is fantastic - we were the only people using it one day, but it was still no trouble for them to have the steam room and sauna up and running. Again, the level of finshes in the pool and changing areas was first rate.

Location-wise, it is in the Mala Strana (Little Quarter) across the Charles Bridge from the Old Town which is the main tourist area. However, it was only a 15 minute walk with plenty to see to get to the Old Square. You are also the right side of the river for Prague Castle, which is a full-day visit. There are also plenty of really cool late-night bars within walking distance of the hotel.

The hotel is right next to the American Embassy so there is a high level of security in the area. Each night as we returned around 2am, the sound of our footsteps would see a policeman skulk out from a darkened doorway to give us the once over!
