Hotel 987 Prague

England

We headed to Prague for our honeymoon and stayed at the Design Hotel. Well ... we had planned and booked to stay at the hotel. When we arrived we were told that there had been an accident at the hotel and that our room was not available. We were told that they would put us in their sister hotel round the corner (there is no sister hotel) and then they promptly rang the Novotel and ordered us a taxi.

We were dissppointed and asked to speak to the manager (who was at home). When we got through to the manager she informed us there was no accident, but they had double booked several rooms, other people had turned up first and had got the rooms. As compensation they offered us a cup of coffee. When we explained that we had booked it four months previously, she said she knew and that at the point of us booking it they were already full up, but that they accepted our booking, knowing full well they wouldn\'t be able to accomodate us and would send us of to any other hotel in Prague that had room for us.

On our way out we met another couple who had experienced the same treatment and they talked of a group of 12 who had had the same problem also.

So the hotel itself is really cool, nice rooms and a good location, but be careful and be aware that the hotel does act as a feeder hotel to other hotels in the area. Basicially you book a room there, they accept your booking even if they are full and then when you get there, they arrange for you to be carted off to the Novotel. So effectively you can be paying top rate for a hotel room which you don\'t actually end up sleeping in.

The breakfast wasn\'t worth writing home about either.

I was a little nervous about staying at the 987 Prague Hotel after reading of other people turning up with reservations only to be shipped to other hotels. However, the booking in experience was a good one and we were quickly in our room.

The hotel was okay but I wouldn\'t recommend it if you are looking for something special. One of the reasons I booked it was because of it being a \"design\" hotel, supposedly smart, witty and sophisticated. But I am afraid everything is already looking a little old and in need of a lick of paint - our room had a dirty footprint and scuff marks on the wall.

The staff didn\'t seem to want to do anymore than the minimum, and a request for extra pillows did not go down well. The most annoying thing for me about the hotel is that my floor stank of cigarette smoke. I had a no smoking room but that is pretty meaningless when everywhere around you smells of smoke. I have asthma and it got worse through the week we stayed there.

The breakfast bar doubles up as a drinks bar in the evening, but very few people seemed to use it - probably because it looked like a breakfast bar! There is no restaurant and although there are restaurants in easy walking distance this is a drawback on a cold and rainy night. Food from room service is limited to sandwiches and salads.

Basically, it isn\'t a hotel to spend much time in. It lacks character, facilities and romance. If you think of a hotel as just being somewhere that you sleep then this hotel is as good as any - except maybe you could get the samething elsewhere cheaper. If you\'re heading to this beautiful and romantic city for a little romance yourself I would recommend that you look elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I stayed here on a weekend break in January 2007. We nearly didn\'t get there due to the heaviest snow fall they\'d seen in 15 years. I\'m glad we made it though as it was beautiful! I had a fabulous stay! The hotel was lovely, and because our flight was delayed, we didn\'t get there until 4am.

We were greated by a helpful receptionist who when we said could we get anything to eat at this ridiculous hour, offered to order us a pizza, which was delivered to our room. Just the job.

The room itself was very clean and the huge bed was very comfortable with it\'s fresh crisp white linen and feather duvet.
The huge tiled pod shower was lovely too. Any excuse to use it, I took. The flat screen tv offered varied entertainment and movies were available to hire.

The only negative thing I would mention is that the lack of closet space meant you had to be very clever in arranging your clothes in the limited space provided behind the bed. The mini bar was well stocked and reasonably priced, and the continental style breakfast was good too. Just make sure you get up early for the hot food though - we missed it on both mornings. Could have done with tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Oh...another great attribute to the room were the lights...I spent ages experimenting with the different combinations of the spotlights available! I\'d definately reccommend this hotel for short city break! Enjoy.......

(p.s Go to the Kampa Park Restaurant ......very romantic, and the bustling & atmospheric Tretters cocktail bar in the Old Town Square. AVOID eating in the restaurants around the edge of this square though.....VERY expensive!!)

London

The hotel was in a fantastic location. It really was as stated \"Design Hotel\". The modern decor was very warm and inviting. The rooms are very comfortable and quite luxurious. We booked three rooms in our party and each one was superb. The staff were nice and very approachable. It did not matter that we arrived at 1am and needed to book an extra room - it was no problem. The one receptionist was very cheery. Their knowledge of languages was incredible as we were a mixture of Spanish and English. They spoke both languages amongst others.

The breakfast was buffett style and there was a huge choice of breads, pastries, English style breakfast, continental, fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts. They had everything.

We could not fault anything at all and the overall ambiance and people who were staying at the hotel was great.

Easy access to the town and not too far from the airport.

The hotel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable and also very good hotel rates. Would stay again.

Had a great time we suggested this city break to friends and we all had a fantastic time. From previous experience we took a travel kettle coffee etc. I need a coffee just to surface in the morning. Airport taxi transfer very fast but got to hotel ok. Rooms(spotlessly clean ,modern and comfy), staff, breakfast everything was great. Out of hotel turn left straight into centre, (5/10 mins walk )We visited castle (noon is the best time for changing of the guards ) astronomical clock, river boat , jewish cemetry and sex museum!!! Very informative. We ate in the side street cafe/restaurents and had lovely meals all very resonable. Weather quite warm wore short sleeved tops but went a bit cooler in the evenings. Would certainly go to this hotel again better situated than our previous stay in the Mala Strana.
