Hotel Kampa - Best western

Rutland

Just returned from a weekend break at this hotel in Prague. Have to agree that it is not a four star, but that in itself is not a complaint. The rooms are clean and tidy and turned down each night with the obligatory chocolate on the pillow.
The location is great, just a short walk through the park or down the road to get to the heart of Mala Strana and the Charles Bridge. Take the back door out of the bar area for this as it cuts out a corner or two and brings you out by the charming water wheel.
The staff were polite and did everything we asked of them. The breakfasts were above the norm for this part of Europe, with fried eggs, bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages in addition to the usual fare of cold meats and cheeses.
Try the Mexican just around the corner in a side street and in a cellar, excellent, quick and friendly service.

West Cork, Ireland

When we stayed in this hotel on a lovely sidestreet in a nice(and quiet) area we weren\'t even sure if it was open, such is the nature of this hotel. On entry we were greeted by a small reception area with very helpful and friendly staff. A mix-up with our booking wasn\'t the most encouraging start but it was sorted out quickly with minimum fuss.

The rooms are nice(3-Star Standard) with what you would expect. The hotel is a beautiful building with an interesting dining area. It is a great location, less than 10 minutes walk from Charles Bridge with very nice Bars & Restaurants in the area which aren\'t as tourist heavy as the centre of Prague.

While the accommodation and reception staff were excellent throughout, I could not say the same for the Bar & Restaurant. While it can be the language barrier, one couldn\'t help the feeling that the large number of unhelpful staff were passing comments in Czech at your expense. While this could be considered as paranoia, the staff in these areas were unhelpful to say the least and in spite of the decor there was a complete lack of atmosphere.

So I would say that this is a very good budget option for anyone who plans to see the city primarily during the day, but if you can get a room only rate I would and have my breakfast in the Irish bar halfway between the hotel & Charles Bridge, which has the aforementioned atmosphere and service, with nicer food.

I would recommend this hotel as a nice place in a great area but with a significant caveat as to what to expect from the social aspects. But not to worry, Prague itself more than makes up for that.

Toronto, Canada

Everything about this hotel is strictly 3 star. If you\'re okay with 3 stars, then you will not mind this hotel. Though clean, cozy (in a kind of University dormatory kind of way), and fairly close to The Charles Bridge, it has nothing to offer (not even a good cup of coffee). If you won\'t be in your rooms much and plan to eat out alot, then go for it. The rooms on the 4th floor are extremely small (although I heard the 2nd floor had larger rooms), the restaurant served mediocre meals and the reception/lobby area consists of a 7x12\' standing room only foyer and a counter. I found the reception staff friendly enough. If you need an elevator (lift), beware. It is ancient, and fits 2 adults only. We always took the stairs. This building, I understand was converted into a hotel from an original old building of some kind. The neighbourhood is quaint, quiet and it felt safe. I don\'t mean to sound harsh, but this is not a Best Western hotel, by any one\'s standards. Felt more like a small, independant, family-run Inn.

Richmond Hill, Ontario

We just returned from 4 days in Prague as well as 4 days in Munich. Wow! Prague is definitely worth the effort! I heard that the food was terrible but we didn\'t find that at all. Many restaurant choices. Lot\'s of italian restaurants and pizza places. Great clubs & bars. My 20 & 16 yr. old sons say that \"The Biggest Club in Europe\" a 5 floor dance club \"ROCKS\"! We went with my son\'s hockey team, who used a tour company called ACIS out of the States. Our guide Adrien was amazing. He kept both the kids and the parents entertained at all times. The only thing is that the people in Prague are a little too serious. Maybe it\'s cause of being a communist country for so long. Hopefully the new generations will loosen up a bit. The Best Western Prague, Kampa is a clean well located 3* (according to Canadian standards) hotel. A good choice if your on a budget. The thing I can say about Munich is that it\'s so clean and organized. The shopping is great. The food was a little difficult for me. Too much stintzel. We stayed at the Best Western Atrium. Didn\'t like the location, but the hotel was also clean. The staff was really nice. All & all a great trip with lots of priceless memories.

St.Helens, Lancashire.

We stayed in the Hotel Kampa in Feb, and we are so glad we did. Hotel is in a perfect location for discovering this beautiful city.
Our room (320) was of a good size, very clean and warm, which we appreciated as the temperature bearly crept above freezing point while we were there!
The Receptionists spoke enough English to be of good assistance and dealt with any queries/questions with no problems at all.
Hotel is a pleasant 10 minute river walk to the Charles Bridge and the Old Town and is directly in an area with some good cheap Bars and Restaurants. Petrin Hill is literally across the road and Prague Castle is also a pleasant 15 minute walk away. However, if you are not up to walking, there is a tram stop at the end of the street.
We booked this hotel a few months before (on the Best Western web-site) and enjoyed a low rate of 80 euros per room per night inc. breakfast.
If I was to visit Prague again, would I stay in this Hotel again?.....Yes definately!
