Hotel Selsky Dvur - Best Western

Washington, United Kingdom

We have just returned from eight days in Prague, staying at the Hotel Selsky Dvur. It has been one of the best holidays i have ever had.

The hotel is out of the way but worth it. Especially if you have had a busy day sightseeing and your feet and head hurt.

This is like stepping back in time. Olde Worlde setting, lovely staff, clean rooms and last , but not least , the food.

Our original plan was to try out a different place each night, but after a couple of meals elsewhere decided this was the best restaurant. Really reasonable for hotel prices. Everything we tried was just so gorgeous. You must try the lobster cocktail in a pear shell starter or the pate. Steaks perfection, fish etc. The deserts are just to die for, especially the crepe suzette.

There is a bus opposite the hotel to take you to the metro or you can walk along the little path next to the stream behind the hotel, walk for about 5 minutes and you will see the hotel ocean just towards you, turn left at the end of the street, cross the small road then the large road and and take the 22 or the 26 tram to the centre, which takes about 30 minutes. Or you can take the tram 22 to the red line metro at Pavlova then the metro to Florenc, which is near the centre and Charles Bridge. Or take the tram 26 to Strasnika metro then get the green line to Mustek for all the shops and Wencelas square. This cuts about 10 minutes or so off your journey. The Trams and the Metro are very safe, clean and efficient even late at night.

The staffs English is a bit limited, but if you talk slowly and try not to use an accent and pronounce your words correctly they can understand you.

We will most definately be back, but next time i will pay for half board.

Miami, FL

We had a wonderful 3 nights stay at this hotel. The staff was very helpful with our questions and requests, it being our first time in the Czech Rep. The public transportation system was so convenient to the location, there was no need to rent a car . We enjoyed the breakfast and the decor has an old world rustic charm. You must bring your own toiletries, since they only supply a liquid soap dispenser in the tub and a hand held shower head.

Glasgow

It was a nice and Cozy, clean hotel. Staff were very pleasant . However I felt it was a bit tricky to get to the place. I travelled to the metro station Skalka and I took number 117 from the same side of the sattion and ended up in a not so nice part of the city. I then learnt the bus 117 is from the opposite side of the station and it was to a place called hostivarski namesti.

Recommended but the problem was it was too far away from the city (about half hour) and with the hot weather you couldnt take a break to freshen up in between unlike a hotel in the centre of the city.

Also recommended are buying a prague card which was for around 700 czech which allows you free admissions to over 50 attractions over a period of 4 days. You could buy it in the american express shop close to the national museum. But it is a real saver!!

Dudley, UK

This is probably the best hotel we have stayed at. We arrived in the early evening on a Thursday and were greeted by lovely piano music. The hotel is about half an hour from the airport and we would definitely recomend the Prage Airport Shuttle.

On arrival at the hotel, we went through the main entrance which is very nice and then into the small reception area. Check-in was very easy. We stayed on the ground floor and found the room to be excellent. When we arrived in the room we saw that on the pillows were notes saying \"Have a good night\" with a chocolate and we got these every night. The beds were comfy though the only downside was that they were two single beds pushed together. There is a TV in the room but the only English channel really is CNN but when you go to a city like Prague you dont really want to be stuck in watching TV! There is a minibar with reasonable prices but we did not use it. The view from the window was very nice overlooking a park/nature reserve.

You should be warned though, that this hotel has a list of prices for breakages so be very careful. One example we found quite funny was that they charged for every square metre of wall that you broke - who would possibly break a wall???

The bathroom was very nice with an interesting hair dryer.

Breakfast at the hotel is continental but they do try to accomodate everyone. If you like a good old cup of English tea, take your own because they only seem to do fruit teas and Earl Grey.

There is a beautiful courtyard with a water wheel which is great for photos.

Meals in the hotel are very nice and reasonably priced. Two courses with drinks for two came to about £25.00 at the most. The soup in a bread bowl and an egg was \"different\".

Getting to the centre of Prague is easy by public transport and getting around the centre itself is very easy. We bought a three day ticket from the hotel which covered buses, trams and the tube (metro). There is a bus stop right outside the hotel but we didn\'t use this - we went round the corner to the tram stop and got the tram into town though, since coming home, we\'ve found out that there is a tube station quite nearby but you would probably still need to get a tram to the station. Prague itself is a very beautiful city and there is so much to do that no matter how long you stay you cant possibly fit everything in. We would definitely recomend taking a boat trip from the people dressed in white sailor outfits near to Charles Bridge. Very reasonable prices including a boat trip on the river, a drink and a cake.

This hotel is a little bit out of the way but dont let that put you off since Prague has an excellent public transport system. We don\'t think there\'s anyone that could stay at this hotel and not love it.

Spokane wa

It\'s out of the way, but worth it. 18th Century converted stable is beautiful both outside and in. Staff was very helpful and person at the front desk went to my room on two different nights. Once to ensure I connected to the internet correctly and the second was when I asked to get the reading light next to my bed changed. Bed was a large comfortable canopy type and there was plenty of space in the room. Breakfast was great and the breakfast room is cute and quaint. Dinner was excellent with a piano player playing both nights we were there. A bus stop is right in front of the hotel and takes you to a subway station in about 10 minutes. It took less than 25 minutes to get from the hotel to the center of Prague via bus and subway. Great stay and my wife immediately started hammering me about returning.
