Hotel Selsky Dvur - Best Western

Leicester, England.

What brilliant value, a lovely old fashioned hotel with very friendly, helpful staff. Great food, good ale & very comfortable rooms. It`s a bit out of town but don`t let this put you off as the public transport is fantastic. The bus stop is right outside the hotel & they run every 15mins until midnight, it`s so easy to get to the city centre in 20 mins. For the price we paid & the service we received I think we must be close to the bargain of the year. I will certainly see the selsky again.

We chose this hotel based on the description and photo from the broucher which came to a total disappointment. The hotel stuff doesn\'t speak much of English nor trying to help you, cracks on the wall, bed looked much cosy & comfortable from the photo than you actual sleep on it. The noisy air-condtion didn\'t work , we stayed here for the last week of October, and we still had to set the air-condition tempreture at 5C degree as the room as really warm with the smell of bleach water. The only good part about our stay was the breakfast and friendly stuff at the restaurant.

THE GLITCH
6 of us arrived dog-tired at 7 pm expecting 3 rooms for which we prepaid 6 months earlier and reconfirmed 3 days before the arrival.
We were told that only 2 rooms were available and two of us would have to go to another hotel roughly 15 km away!!! (namely, my 75 years old mother and 14 years old daughter).
Turned out the local agent overbooked the hotel.
We got really angry and put up a fight. After running back and forth to an invisible manager, the clerk finally offered 3 rooms.

Another negative:
bit tricky to find - it is really out of the way and nobody heard about this hotel. Don\'t attempt this hotel without your own vehicle. We ended up buying a city map and after getting lost only twice managed to find it.
We drove our car in the mornings to the closest metro station and took metro from there.
No elevator.
Very crowded and awkward parking spaces.

THE GOOD
comparing to other hotels in Prague it\'s great value, (80 euro per night), charming, romantic, clean to the point of spotless, has a fitness room with sauna and very nice breakfast spread with a pleasant service. In this respect it is a 4 star hotel as advertised.
Would stay again, because I did see the other altervnatvies and they weren\'t pretty.
Not recommended without own vehicle.

Lakenheath, England

It\'s away from the city center, but a terrific hotel. Rooms were clean and well maintained, breakfast was wonderful, and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Transportation via metro and buses was easy and cheap. Couldn\'t imagine a better value for the money.

UK

The hotel was small and had a local flavor. The courtyard was beautiful. The food was excellent. The staff was quite helpful when asked, but did not volunteer much assistance. The room was quite comfortable and well kept. Overall, I was quite happy with my stay. The hotel is far from the city center and required taking a bus about 5 stops to the subway station (the last stop on that metro line.) I did not have a car so this proved to be a challenge and took time out of my trip that could have been spent sightseeing. I did get to see the locals up close and personal, though. On one night I took the last metro back after viewing the opera. I mistakenly took the bus going the wrong direction and ended up at the end of the line in a bad neighborhood (former communist high-rises.) The buses were finished for the night and it started to rain. I called the hotel from a pay phone and the desk attendant sent a driver to pick me up. I was quite relieved when a new Mercedes arrived and a professionally dressed driver took me back to the hotel for a reasonable fare. A standard taxi at that time of night would have cost a fortune. Overall, very nice hotel if you have transportation.
