Hotel Melantrich

New York City, New York

My stay at the hotel started off pleasant. When we entered the hotel (which you enter only after you ring a buzzer and the door is opened from the lobby) we were greeted kindly by a elderly gentleman. He quickly checked our reservation and sent us to our rooms after giving us a map and showing us where the hotel was located in reference to noteworthy points in the city. We entered our room and it was quite run down with everything in there looking like it was still in use from the 80’s with the only exception being the bathroom, which look like it had been remodeled recently. One comforter had a visible hole in it and the carpets looks they weren’t properly vacuumed as there were evidence of crumbs scattered across the rooms. But overall the rooms were tolerable but not anywhere near 3 stars as advertised. Maybe 2 but probably closer to one and half.

But rooms aside, the worse thing about this hotel was the service. Aside from the initial elderly gentlemen every other person that worked there were among the rudest people I have ever seen in the hospitality industry. And this is not a reflection of the Czech people at all, who for the most part were friendly and polite.
I first noted the service when I asked for a iron and was given a look of death, and reluctantly granted the iron after mumbling something to herself in Czech and slamming the iron down on the front desk. (If you stay here you will need an iron, because they only give 2 hangers for the whole room) Encounters like this were common place, if you asked for directions they would pretend not to understand English, ask for change for a 500 kroner bill they said they didn’t have any, asked if I could bring a breakfast plate back to the room for my friend who was still sleeping and was denied.

Also in regard to service you are not allowed to have guests in your room past 10pm. I have never been to a hotel with this kind of policy before. They seem to treat customers there like they are 10 years old. I wouldn’t be surprised if the hotels next policy was that all occupants had to be in their room by 12am.
On to the positive’s of the hotel which were few and far between.
Location was within a 5 minute walk of Old Town Square and Weneslas square and 10 minutes to the Charles bridge. The breakfast offered daily was edible, offering assorted cold meats and cheeses, some cereal options, and a variety of bread and jams.
Overall I would strongly recommend not staying at this hotel, as we talked to many other tourists that did not have similar issues at other hotels. Prague is a beautiful city with some great people but this hotel did not showcase either.

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Without doubt the major plus for this hotel is it\'s location. Situated right between the Old Town Square and Wencelas Square, and only a short walk from the King Charles Bridge, all the major tourist sights are within easy walking distance. The hotel itself is nothing flash, basic but clean.

As has been said in previous reviews, don\'t be put off by the entrance being shared by a nightclub. The location and price definately make this hotel a good choice for exploring the city by foot.

The nightclub is situated below the hotel so ask for a room on the upper floors and you won\'t have any bother with the noise.

Just returned from my seventh visit to Prague and found this hotel the best for location yet , near to Mustek metro station ,between the Old Town and Wenslas Square. Very clean rooms and beds. Staff friendly . Rooms very warm. it is 3* we did not have tea making fascilities which we did miss but that was to be expected. Would use again but if I wanted a bit of luxoury I would go back to the Metamorphis where I usually stay.

Bristol

As most reviews have already stated, this hotel has a brilliant location within Prague. Just be careful not to order a taxi to the airport from the hotel reception as the taxi that arrives will belong to the Agenteur Hotel Group and will charge you about 750 CZK ( £20).
Go to the Old Town Square and find an \'AAA\' taxi, the biggest metered taxi company in Prague and recommended by the likes of EasyJet, to the airport for about 480 CZK (£12.50).

Leeds, England

We stayed here in June, when they were having a bit of a heatwave. The location couldn\'t be better in our opinion. It is very central and is equidistant from the two main squares. Only about 500m in either direction. The entrance to the hotel may be a little off putting for the discerning traveller but it would be a mistake to pass it up because of that. The fact that it is situated above a pizza restaurant and has an underground nightclub may also be off-putting but again, our fears were unfounded because the hotel itself is situated two floors above. We received a very warm welcome on our arrival and were happy that our room was only one further floor up as there are no lifts! We had a twin room and were amused to find the beds at opposite ends of the room so no chance of pushing them together - still sometimes that can add to the romance! Not an enormous room but adequate. Storage was one large wardrobe but was also adequate for a 3 night stay. The continental breakfast was plentiful and varied.
We had an inward facing room so the view wasn\'t worth looking at but again this worked in our favour because of the heat, we could leave the windows wide open and weren\'t bothered by street noise. I would most certainly recommend this place and will stay there again next time I visit Prague which I hope will not be too long.
