Hotel Dalimil

Nottingham, England

My parents paid for this trip as a 21st Birthday present so I had no choice in where we were staying. I cannot comment on prices as Mum & Dad paid for this online but as far as I am aware they thought this reasonable. They both had picked this place as they stayed the previous year and loved it.

We were initially worried as we checked this site the day before we left and were not impressed with the reviews but after a smooth check in and quick look around our room which was huge, we left to do some sight seeing.

We left the hotel which is situated in a dodgy looking area heading for the river but the route we look was not very picturesque and walked for ages wondering what we had come to. Most of the Prague we saw looked much the same unless you are in the very centre - so try and remember you are in the Czech Republic not London. We had a really fun afternoon and on our way back to the hotel we followed the tram tracks and found we were staying 2 minutes walking distance away from a stop and consequently used this for the rest of the trip to get in to the centre. If you walk it, it\'s about half an hour. To find the Tram Stop walk up the hilly street directly in front of the hotel across the square and turn right past Pizzeria Einstein.

Back to the hotel we came, and which when approached from the front looks alright. Our room was on the first floor and we were front facing so you can hear the roads during peak times and late at night the odd reveller.

Nice big clean room and good shower - very basic but if you are out all day and most of the evening this is fine. The only english speaking channel on the TV which worked was CNN which can be very repetitive in it\'s news stories so bring a book. Very helpful welcome pack placed in the rooms when you arrive with sightseeing tours leaflets etc.

Breakfast was very limited but nice - cereal, coffee - funny egg things which on toast were very yummy. Bit like a continental.

On check out morning the staff were very helpful - they let us leave our bags in a secure room so we could do some last minute shopping and arranged for a taxi to take us to the airport.

Overall better than we were expecting - and would not turn our noses up if we had to stay again, although would probably try and book something more central.

Sheffield

The hotel is attractive and cheaper than city centre hotels and the town centre IS easy to access by public transport, I bought a 7 day public transport pass. The nearest metro was 3 bustops away and the centre of the city 2-3 metro stops . The longest it took me from leaving the hotel to getting into the city centre was 30 mins on a Sunday! The hotel rooms were a lot bigger than I was expecting and tons of storage space. My room was on the back of the hotel and I never experienced loud noises from the autoshop and I had the window open every night and day. The breakfast buffet was great compared to many continental buffets I have sampled across Europe with a selection of breads ,meats, cereals, fruit even pancakes on some days. Some of the reception staff weren\'t very friendly however some were extremely friendly and eager to help you out. They even loaned me an umbrella which came in very handy on our stay. If you\'re not going to make long distance calls then this hotel is good value for money and the non stop dodgy herna bars are all over Prague not just near this hotel!

Prato, Italy

The hotel room was of acceptable quality, although the hotel was not as close to the centre as the web site seemed to suggest. The breakfast was plentiful and also quite acceptable.

The hotel management advertised the room rate on the web site in Euros. However, when we paid with the swipe of our credit card, they entered an amount in Koronas that did not correspond to the exchange rate. Within seconds of the transaction we contacted our credit card company who confirmed that they had in fact taken exactly 10% more that the advertised amount in euros. Within minutes we asked the front desk to return our credit card voucher because of the obvious mistake. The hotel management refused to make the correction and the hotel chain subsequently refused to respect the rate advertised in euros. We had stayed there for 5 days so the over charge was not negligeable.

The hotel management informed us that czech law allowed them to add 10 % to the exchange rate. In our view this is a completely dishonest practice as it allows the hotel to invent an exchange rate and take more money. The amount in euros taken was exactly 10% more than the amount advertised in Euros. Check your credit card charges before you sign!

U.S.A

The Hotel Dalimil is located in a seedy part of Prague, one block from \"24-hour sex bazaars\" and second-hand clothing stores. Two blocks away there were hostels advertising rates of 8 euros a night. The hotel is not near public transportation and a taxi to the central locations and tourist sites cost about $15 U.S. An auto body repair shop, located near the back of the hotel, filled the air with sounds of metal being cut/ground for repairs. The hotel itself is a modest structure providing minimal services and a very mediocre breakfast buffet.
The worst part of my stay at the hotel was being presented with a bill for 8,000 koruna ($358. U.S.) for two international calls. One was for a call to Berlin, made after 10 p.m., for which I was charged 3753 koruna ($168. U.S.). The same call to Berlin from a Budapest hotel two days earlier, was charged $7. U.S.!!! There was similar outrageous overpricing of a call to the United States.
I recommend that you place this hotel on your \"Do not consider\" list.

Köln

We stayed at Dalimil for 4 days in January, for 49 EUR per night (double), booked via -----. The hotel is okay: the rooms are clean but some quite dark, the breakfast is nothing special and the connection to the center by tram 10 Min. As we were shopping and sightseeing all day long we just came to sleep anyway, so it was acceptable. It´s definitely not a hotel to enjoy the room! The area of the hotel is nice, some good and cheap restaurants. But I would try to find another hotel next time...
