Hotel Josef

madison,wi

This is a terrific hotel...my wife and I are planning to go back for two weeks next summer after just spending 4 days here with our son and daughter. We were planning to stay at the Four Seasons, but my daughter convinced us that
Josef might be a nice change from the Ritz-Carlton we\'d stayed at in Berlin. So we gave it a try; we\'re glad we did. The location is amazing (far better than 4 Seasons), a quiet and authentic Prague neighborhood, but with tourist attractions nearby. The hotel itself is wonderful, glass and natural light and stainless steel everywhere (yet not cold); the rooms are a nice size and soothingly uncluttered and plain. The fitness room is small, but has ceiling to floor windows on two sides and an outdoor rooftop area where you can stretch etc. (and free bottled water). There\'s WiFi in the lobby and a really smart business room that overlooks the lobby and offers free computer with internet.
Then there\'s the included breakfast: judging from what I paid at the R-C in Berlin, it\'s easily worth $25 per person. My family would eat breakfast at 8 or 9 a.m., and then not eat again until dinner, it was that plentiful and good. To sum up, I consider the Josef one of the great hotels and hotel values in Europe, right alongside the Hotel Pierre in Florence. By the way, service was excellent.

Egham, Surrey, UK

My wife and I stayed 4 nights. Our Standard room was enormous, and so was the very comfortable bed. Pity I can\'t stand duvets. There was a splendid spread for the buffet breakfast, with instant service by the staff. Hot dishes were available on request. The concierge was ready with restaurant recommendations - we went to Lary Fary once (just round the corner), and to Patriot X twice (10 minute walk). They were both fine. Patriot X was very slow the second night due to shortage of staff, but the food was excellent. We especially liked the hotel\'s position; quiet, but only 5 minutes stroll to the Old Town Square, through amazing alleys as one got close to the square. If we return to Prague, that\'s where we shall stay. No hesitation.

Thrue

My husband and I stayed at the hotel Josef for four nights at the end of July. We had ordered a car to pick us up at the airport and thought this was well worth 29 euros as we were a bit wary of taxis, having heard so much about unscrupulous taxi drivers!
The hotel was lovely. We loved the use of glass and modern design of hotel. Very cool in every sense of the word as weather was very hot and hotel was like a cool oasis after a day spent walking.
The staff were very friendly and helpful: reception, dining room, housekeeping. Bar we didn\'t use as it seemed very expensive.

Breakfasts were wonderful, best we have ever had, served until 11 30 so no rush in the morning. We enjoyed a good night\'s sleep in the comfortable beds. My husband liked the light weight duvet so much we changed ours when we got home!

Prague is a wonderful city. We loved it and the Josef and will definitely stay there again.

Chris

I have average feelings about Hotel Josef, it\'s not a bad hotel, but it\'s not at all unique.

Start with the good points: Good location (about 10 minutes walking from the old town square and Wenceslas square), interesting design of the lobby, nice superior rooms (the best thing is the glass bathroom).
Good buffet breakfast with a lot of choice.

Bad points: I have to say that some members of the staff were not so nice (not all of them, some were very kind). The bar in the lobby is most of the time empty.

I would recommend Hotel Josef only if you get a good rate, some others design hotels offer better service.

Chicago, Illinois

We just returned from a 5 day stay at the Hotel Josef in Prague. The ultra modern hotel is unusual in that it offers warm attitude and great service to go along with its cutting edge style. Rooms are a comfortable size (not tiny like most modern style hotels) and the air conditioning really kept the room cool. Their included breakfast offered a lot of choices (including freshly made eggs to order) was a great way to start off a day. The hotel is only 5 - 10 minute walk from Old Town Square. Wenceslas Square (why bother) and the Castle District are walkable although the latter is a long uphill hike after you cross the Charles Bridge.

One word of caution for ATM users. We went to seven or eight ATM machines before we found one that accepted our card. Check with your bank before leaving to get a list of compatible ATM machines so you don\'t have to waste time going from machine to machine. Our normal backup, the American Express Office (in Wenceslas Square) has a new policy and you can\'t \"buy\" money there on your AE card. So . . . in this case, you can leave home without it.
