Hotel Archibald City

Adelaide, Australia

We have recently returned from Prague and stayed at the Archibald at the Charles Bridge. It is a great location. We had a room on the second floor with a view of the river. The room was quite spacious with an entrance foyer containing two cupboards and a spotless bathroom. It is right at the bottom of the Bridge and it is only a short walk across the bridge to all the major sights. Breakfast was plentiful and excellent. We dined at the hotel restaurant next door because it appeared to be well patronised by the locals and we were pleased with the meal. Only downside is the hotel, being so old, has no lift, but the benefits far outweighed that small problem. Desk staff were polite and gave good information. We would definitely return and recommend it highly ...especially for the good price they offer.

Ireland

We stayed in this hotel for the New Year for 4 nights. I booked this hotel based on the reveiws here. I must admit to being somewhat disappointed in some ways, maybe its because I expected a bit more. The location was great as reported, and it was very quiet which is one of the main reasons I booked it, but the hotel did not live up to my 4 star expectations. I knew it had no lift, but it also had no lobby as such, you practically fell down three steps when you arrived in the front door to a small narrow reception. I kept reminding myself that we were staying in one of the oldest locations in Prague and the hotel building reflected that. The double bed was literally two beds stuck together as previously mentioned and the furniture was old. The bar/restaurant wasn\'t great either. We only took breakfast one morning and that was enough. The \'hot food\' was cold and it was enough to put you off. It was very near all the attractions though and that was a great bonus.

Prague itself in my opinion is a beautiful city but is a complete rip off. Being from Ireland we are used to paying over the odds for everything, but we found Prague a lot more expensive than home. All the restaurants had set menus for New Years Eve and unbelievably charged 142 euro per person for a three course meal!! Outrageous! We were charged nearly 20euro for two coffees and two small cakes in a cafe near the square! It was 14euro a head for breakfast in O\'Reillys Irish Pub, when you add a coke and juice to that, breakfast for two cost nearly 40euro! We had dinner in \'Hot\' restaurant in Wenseles square and it was very nice and worth the money we paid. We also had dinner in \'La Casa Argentina\", a great spot down Dhoula Street. We tried \'Cowboys\' restaurant and that was very good as well. If you\'re off to Prague bring comfortable shoes, no heels, and a big wallet. Stay in the Archibald but don\'t expect luxury and I think you\'ll be ok.

West Sussex, ENGLAND

We arrived back home today after a three night stay in the Archibald at the Charles Bridge in Prague.

We loved it. We recently stayed in a very glam, modern hotel in London, so we were looking for something a little different. We certainly found it in this hotel! The building is very old and so it doesn\'t have a lift. We were on the second floor and this wasn\'t a problem at all.

We asked for a river view and that\'s what we got. The room was more like an apartment, it had a little hall and a nice bathroom. The beds were indeed two pushed together, but this seems to be the norm in Prague. The room was nice and warm with plenty of windows.

There is no room service but we were allowed to grab a tray and take food from the breakfast buffet to our room.

There is a restaurant attached and the food is good enough for your first night in Prague, just simple and relaxing. 10% off drinks and food in the bar too if you add it to your hotel bill. That was a nice surprise.

The staff are helpful and are happy to book taxis and give you directions. The lobby isn\'t fancy, but what do you need from a lobby?

The desk is 24hr too so you can come back at all hours of the day.

I will come back to Prague one day and I will be staying at the Archibald Hotel @ the Charles Bridge. The location is the best, the staff friendly and the rooms beautiful.

Essex

Stayed at the Archibald for a long weekend, booked hotel through lastminute.com and got the room for £60 per night.

I would rate the hotel room as a above average 3 star but it deserves another star for location. We requested a room overlooking the river and we got this.

The room itself was very spacious, with a large hallway, bedroom with nice furniture and modern bathroom with shower. The tv was a dated portable with only a couple of English channels but this should not be a problem, with so much to see in Prague time spent in the room was spent either sleeping or getting ready to go out.

The hotel facilites are basic, but what are there are very good. A manned 24 hour reception, very nice breakfast room with a good choice, reception will look after yours bags if you are checking out but flying late.

The restaurant/bar which belongs to the hotel is very nice with good staff. The prices maybe slightly more expensive than some other places but if you are a hotel guest you get 10% of the bill, also the food in the restaurant is of a very high quality.

Finally, the hotel location is the best thing. Next to Charles bridge on the castle side. Very quiet location next to a nice park and only 10 mins walk to the Old Square/Wencelas Square.

Will definately return to Prague and the Archibald but in the summer next time.

Lakewood, OH

This hotel is delightful and in a great location. The hotel is very charming and the rooms are lovely. Everything was very clean and nicely decorated. The hearty breakfast was a good start to the day and the cozy room was a great place to return to each day after sight seeing. The location was very convenient as it is right beside the Charles Bridge, but it is located down a nice quiet street so its not right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. There are beautifiul views of the river and the bridge from your room. A great stay- we would definately come back.
