Prague, Czech Republic Hotels and Apartments

The Old Inn is good, but not great. We recently spent two nights there. Good things: 1) Location - on the square in Cesky Krumlov, which is a lovely little town, and definitely worth a day or two. 2) Parking - parking is a little hard to come by in the town, and the Old Inn has its own lot about 200 meters from the hotel which it shares with the Hotel Ruze. Parking costs about 12 euros/day. Bad things: 1) Location - our room fronted on the square, which had a music festival going on, so there was loud live music from 6 pm to 10 pm every night. That\'s great if you are out there enjoying it, but not great if you\'re trying to put the baby to sleep. The hotel wasn\'t willing to offer an alternate room, even though there seemed to be plenty of space. 2) Price - there are other places in town (Hotel Konvice, for example) which are very close by, but much cheaper. 3) Beds - the bed was large (two twins together, for king size), but it had a footboard, so anyone over 6 feet tall will be uncomfortable. 4) Bathroom - for the price, you would expect a tub, but there is only a shower in the bathroom. On balance, I would give the hotel a \"3\" rating.

First of all, if you\'re going to be traveling in the Czech Republic, you don\'t want to miss Cesky Krumlov. You\'ll be charmed by the town\'s lovely (and hilly) cobblestoned streets, the medieval castle, and the artistic sensibility. Also, you\'ll be glad to see that everything is way cheaper than in Prague.
Except the Hotel the Old Inn, which is still a bargian, even though it isn\'t exactly cheap. We paid around the equivalent of $200 for our only night there, but found the place to be very romantic, very clean, and the staff very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is in an old, old building, and has been decorated inside to look like an original Renaissance residence - usually we don\'t go in for that kind of thing, but this i very tastefully and subtly done, and we found it added to our experience in a good way.
The Old In is located right on the town square, which means if you have a room facing the square you can expect a little noise from the tourists outside your window. I was worried a little at first about this, but we found it really wasn\'t a problem, as the town got pretty quiet after 10pm or so. I imagine that in the height of tourist season, when you\'d really want to have the windows open all the time, this could be more of an issue.
Otherwise, the room was great - lovely Rococo-themed furniture, paintings on the walls, a soft and comfortable bed, a clean and well-appointed bathroom with ample space — what more could you want?
The downstairs restaurant is conveninent and good. Breakfast served there, included with the room, was good.
Cesky krumlov was one of our favorite places on our recent trip, and the Hotel Old Inn was certainly my wife\'s favorite hotel. Highly recommended by us!

Krumlov mit seinen kulturellen und landschaftlichen Reizen (die Moldau kann sich von dem Platz kaum trennen und umschmiegt ihn mit 3 Schleifen) ist gekennzeichnet durch Tagestourismus. Aber es lohnt sich sehr, mal zu übernachten und das romantische, mittelalerliche Ambiente am Abend und Morgen zu genießen.

The Old Inn dominiert den Hauptplatz, 3 Bürgerhäuser wurden innen modernisiert und zu einem Hotel zusammengefaßt. Die Begrüßung war professionell und hilfreich (siehe später), wenn auch nicht überschwänglich.

Als früherer Tagestourist wußte ich um die Herausforderung, hier einen akzeptablen Parkplatz zu bekommen und wartete ab, was das Hotel mir anbot. Das Auto stellte ich im Stadtinnern an einem wenig befahrenen ort im Parkverbot ab, weil die direkte Zufahrt zumHauptplatz zugeparkt war.

Erste Aufgabe: das Auto wiederzufinden und das (nicht zu große) Gepäck in mein Dachzimmer mit Ausblick auf den Haptplatz zu schaffen. Zweiter Schritt: mein Auto zum Parkplatz zu bringen und mich dann wieder ins Hotel. All das wurde mit einem von der Recptionistin beauftragten jungen Hauschauffeur (beide Personen sprachen auch deutsch) bestens erledigt Dritter Schritt :das ganze in umgekehrter Reihenfolge nach dem Checkout, wieder mit dem Hotelbus und einem anderen Fahrer.

Wenn Sie alten Bauernkram lieben oder bemalte Truhen oder Schränke mit Seefahrtmotiven (Sehnsucht der Mitteleuropäer ?) dann werden Sie sich hier wohlfühlen. Natürlich sind die Zugänge zu den Zimmern verwinkelt, aber ein Lift ist vorhanden. Das EZ nicht allzu groß, mit imitierten historischen Möbeln und einem gut ausgestatteten Duschbad.

Ein Plus ist die Kooperation mit dem Top-Hotel Ruze, d.h. man kann u.a. das dortige Fitness Center mit Pool und Sauna nutzen und dabei des historische Ambiente des \"Ruze\" samt mannshohen Puppen (Bischof, Kaufmann, Ritter ...) miterleben ohne hohe Preise zu bezahlen (siehe Qualität der engl. Kritiken).

Eine Enttäuschung: das Schiele-arme Museu, 2 min vom Hotel. Kommen Sie besser nach Wien, da gibt mehr als 3 Bilder ....

Das Hauptplatz Restaurant des Hotels war abends leer, der Geheimtip sind die romantischen Bier-Katakomben des Hauses mit hervorragenden Grillgerichten und (boshaft !) Pilsner statt Budweiser.

Der Frühstücksraum wurde von einer älteren Dame beherrscht, die immer bloss ein paar Tische für die nächsten Gäste vorbereitete - die 2 Alternativen hießen Platz nehmen an einem großen leeren Gemeinschaftstisch oder am einizigen fertig gedeckten 4er Tisch. Verhandlungen darüber, einen näher beim Fenster liegenden Tisch (mit Blick auf den Haptplatz und die um 8 Uhr schon aktiven asiatischen Gruppen) fertigzudecken sah ich fehl schlagen.

Zusammenfassend, ein lohnender Mehrtagesausflug mit bestem Preis-Leistungsverhältnis.
