Hotel Riverside

UK

We stayed at the Riverside for New year. This was our second visit and we were not disappointed. The staff are brilliant and having e-mailed the hotel in advance they arranged for a car to collect us at the airport. Only cost 17 pounds in a very comfortable bmw.
We had a junior suite, extremely comfortable and clean with great views across the river. Breakfast is a treat with superb, friendly staff. Reception staff are full of good ideas regarding restaurants etc.
On New Year\'s Eve the staff booked us at the Bazaar restaurant. Good food, fantastic atmosphere. At midnight, everyone went up to the roof terrace where fireworks could be seen all around Prague. Lots of nationalities and everyone really friendly.
The best way to see Prague for the first time is to take a walking tour. They start near the clock in the old town square. Excellent guides and a really good way to learn about the history of the city.
We cannot speak highly enough about the Riverside hotel and will definitely return. Not sure if we would visit during the summer, prefer Prague when snow has fallen.
For a great meal, visit Kampa restaurant on Kampa island. Just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Went for my wife\'s birthday, table overlooking the river, loads of drinks, beautiful 3 course meal all for 50 pounds

I booked into the Riverside for 2 nights over New Years Eve after reading the reviews on this site. I really couldnt have picked a better hotel.

I arranged a taxi to pick us up from the airport for about 20 pounds which was waiting when we landed. At the hotel the porter took our bags and showed us the check in desk. Lovely check in staff who gave us maps, directions, had details on good restaurants, he even sent up a toothbrush when my girlfriend had forgotten to pack hers.

The porter then took us up to our room (605) which was amazing. Two bathrooms (tha main one with a jacuzzi, big shower, 2 seperate sinks, and a seperate loo), a lounge area, balcony, a great comfy bed, and importantly (I\'m told) lots of wardrobe space.

Breakfasts were great and had a huge range of things to eat ranging from champagne, caviar, and stawberries, to bacon, snossiges, and hash browns.

We ate at Hergetova cihelna (excellent) on NYE and watched the fireworks go off over charles bridge at midnight. Then we went back to the hotel and i got down on one knee.

After planning it for around 6 months, the hotel really was the everything i\'d hoped for and a perfect choice for a romantic weekend away, and i\'d recommend room 605 to anyone, and the staff went out of their way to help.

We also stayed at the Riverside for New Year\'s Eve (28 Dec-3 Jan) on the basis of recommendations from this site.

Although our room was right on the ground floor (but with a view of the park opposite), and it was quite small (we ended up with one of our two large suitcases in the entranceway to the room) the luxurious decor and well equipped rooms (including a lovely large bath) made us feel very pampered.

Great service from the staff made this a very pleasant place to stay - the reception staff were a great help in booking us restaurants both for NY Eve and other evenings, and getting a taxi to the station to leave, and the staff in the breakfast room were so enthusiastic! The breakfasts were excellent - fresh fruit, cooked breakfasts, the usual pastries - and after NY champagne as well! (Though who would feel like champagne on New Year\'s Day??)

Although there is no restaurant, the bar also serves food and room service is available. Good restaurants are nearby - La Perle de Prague is just over the river in the Fred and Ginger building (and we had an excellent meal there), and there are lots of good restaurants an easy walk away in the Kampa area just by the Charles Bridge. And if you want something quick and easy, there are pizza places on the same block as the hotel.

The location is slightly out of the main tourist area, but there are trams and underground stations nearby in a local shopping area, and it really is quite an easy walk to get to the main sights. Believe me - at New Year, it was a real bonus to be in a more peaceful part of the city away from the throngs of tourists!

I definitely recommend the Riverside to anyone travelling to Prague.

We have just returned from a 3 day stay at the Riverside and being still under Prague\'s spell, let me tell you that if you have not yet visited Prague, this is one of the cities where you should go at least once in your lifetime! not to mention that when deciding where to stay, you won\'t go wrong at the Riverside. - Let me summarise for you why this hotel is fantastic:

1) STAFF - Over attentive and super compliant staff - anything you\'d like, just ask for, the staff will be extremely happy to assist you. I emailed them a million times before coming to Prague, and they always responded to me very promptly and with tons of suggestions and ideas to do. Special mention to the breakfast staff - amazing service!

2) FACILITIES - The rooms are not huge but not small either - brand new - beautiful decoration, floor heating in the bathroom, 2 individual comforters, beautiful views, very silent, all possible amenities, etc... need I say more?

3) NO RESTAURANT - The hotel does not have a restaurant - but it does not really matter, they offer a great room service menu (we ordered dinner one night and it was fantastic!). In addition, the hotel will be more than happy to recommend restaurants for you - as many of the reviewers here, we went to the Blue Ducking Restaurant (DELICIOUS!!!! - we tried the Czech traditional plate for 2) - then we also tried a newly recommended restaurant called La Scene (DELICIOUS french food!)

4) ACTIVITIES - We did not take any guide of the city (however, if I were to go again, I probably would have taken a 1 day tour, that should be enough!) - we only took a cruise along the river, which we were not extremely impressed with, perhaps a bit too touristy!

5) LOCATION - Don\'t be put off by its location. The hotel is situated in a extremely quiet residential neighbourhood - walking distance to everything! and nice and safe walks as well. I particularly enjoyed being away from the main tourist sites and being able to see traditional czech lifestyle. Definitely not as far as some reviewers have made it sound!

Overall, a great stay and a most memorable trip! Congratulations on a job well done Riverside!

I booked this hotel due to your contributors\' consistent excellent comments. My husband and I couldn\'t agree more after having stayed there four nights recently. Everyone at the hotel we ran into spoke very good English and were extremely helpful with our requests. From Ana and Richard at the front desk to Otto the doorman and others, we felt so welcome and at home. The suite we stayed at was on the 5th floor looking out to the beautiful views of the Vltava river and the city. With hard wood floors, the suite had well-appointed rooms, including a separate sleeping room, very clean bathroom with luxurious white robes. To top it all, we had a hearty and healthy breakfast daily (included) that provided us with lots of energy before we ventured out into our walking tours of this very charming place. The service was impeccable especially of the breakfast team with special mention for Renata, Eva and Hana.

We did not mind having to walk a very short distance to the train stations nor to the city center.

I would definitely recommend. Our hotel experience made our visit to Prague even more memorable!
